Boys & toilets...

Gruesome question but my two small boys (and perhaps my DH, who knows) seem to be incapable of getting all their wee in the toilet and the carpet around the base of the toilet is starting to suffer. I'm sure I remember my parents having a rubber backed mat in their house but can't find anything on Google. Does anyone have any suggestions? They're only small so getting them to wee in the toilet at all is an achievement in itself so I'm not really looking for anything for them to aim at!

I think I read that ping pong balls float and boys like to try and sink them (thus aiming in the right direction).......

mistlethrush · 10/09/2013 11:45

Perhaps you need a pedestal mat or two so that you can save the carpet a bit. We've gone to hard flooring in the bathroom and downstairs toilet and I'm much happier than when we had carpet! Something to aim at might be an idea though.

Bowlersarm · 10/09/2013 11:46

OP don't bank on them growing out of it, my teen DSes haven't! It's so annoying. We have no carpet in our bathrooms at all now. Changed a fee years ago to just light tiles so it can easily be spotted and wiped up. Sounds really really grim but means there isn't a permanent urine smell and it always looks clean.

Lovely. Bless them. Grrr.

WowOoo · 10/09/2013 11:55

Get them to do sit down wees and make sure they hold it and point towards the toilet bowl maybe.

I have darker tiles. Even though it may not be so visible, I know it must be there.

Vivacia · 10/09/2013 16:05

This just makes me shudder. Sit down weeing is the way forward.

And a massive no to carpets in bathrooms.

PigletJohn · 10/09/2013 16:29

put them in charge of cleaning it. Each of them, every day for a week.

BTW if you do get mats, get washable cotton ones.

justanuthermanicmumsday · 10/09/2013 16:37

erm don't wana bring religion into this, but its a part of my culture too. it's incumbent upon men and boys to sit for a wee to avoid splashing impurities onto themselves and clothes, and to clean themselves properly.

Little boys will still get accidents if they don't point downwards but its less likely as they get used to it. So ask them to try that?

maybe my OCD tendencies but just get rid of the carpet. You will notice any accidents are easy to wipe and mop . I wouldn't wana even touch a mat with wee on it oh I feel sick at the thought I can't help it sorry. I'm sure you have a lovely clean home it's just me freak that I am

WhyMeWhyNot · 11/09/2013 07:29

My new partner is a sit down wee-er. No noise no splashes it's the way to teach boys I think.

PigletJohn · 11/09/2013 07:39

I did hear somewhere that as men get older they are more likely to sit down to wee (in their own homes). Perhaps they like a rest.

Boys need to learn willy control and loo cleaning and the connection between them.

Urinals used to be made with a painted bee under the glaze as a target. The latin for bee is Apis. This was a pun.

mistlethrush · 11/09/2013 08:26

It was a good pun Piglet Grin

Gatekeeper · 11/09/2013 15:07

we had a ping pong ball in the loo but it ended up getting flushed away as did the replacement.

ds (9) still has a rotten aim so now we make him sit down after one incident when he peed over my wicker basket and round the floor. I hauled him out of bed when I spotted that and made him clean it all up

yegodsandlittlefishes · 11/09/2013 15:10

Yep, get them to learn to sit down on the seat to pee in the toilet.

PigletJohn · 11/09/2013 15:40

here you are

minibreadstick · 13/09/2013 21:39

Why do men stand to wee in this culture anway?? Its also part of my religion too to sit down n wee, specifically to avoid making a mess! I cant believe the threads in potty training about how to teach boys to wee standing up after they've happily got used to weeing sitting down- why??? I would love to know the cultural history behind this. Pun intended Grin well, when I say I'd love to know, I only mean that if it's not too gruesome and disgusting Grin

Mumof3xx · 13/09/2013 21:43

My boys refuse to sit down to wee as they are big boys

However they keep pissing on the bin!

LoganMummy · 13/09/2013 21:51

You can get sticker things that boys need to aim at, wee targets I think they are called?

My friend's son (with SN) used to keep a packet of Cheerios in the bathroom and put one in the toilet each time he went to use as target practice.

I think whatever you decide the carpet has to go.

ABaconAndOnionTart · 13/09/2013 21:59

Some boys need to straighten out their winkie before weeing, as it can come out at a 90 degree angle.

Now they are older, a cleaning rota definitely helps...

PigletJohn · 13/09/2013 22:06

minibreadstick

what do you think the men in your culture do when they are in a place where there is no WC pan?

Surely your culture did not spring forth fully formed in the 20th century?

minibreadstick · 14/09/2013 10:49

PigletJohn you are quite right, my culture did not spring forth fully formed in the 20th century

they did what everyone in countries where WC pan type toilets are not yet in the majority or in parts of the world where such toilet styles have not reached- they squatted. Grin

PigletJohn · 14/09/2013 12:51

men squatting for a wee?

mirry2 · 14/09/2013 13:05

Which religion or culture requires men to sit town to wee?

minibreadstick · 14/09/2013 15:04

Yes men squatting for a wee. Not as difficult as men here would have you believe, even the, er hm, more generously endowed manage it so it's really not an issue for us!

Islam requires/encourages this. For the purpose of avoiding mess and covering up ones private area.

And if men or anyone did make a mess they would have to clean it up straight away because wee is unclean.
