Range Cookers - ideas please

We are refurbishing a house and putting in a new kitchen. I am thinking about getting a range cooker.

Its not a period house so I am looking for a reasonably modern style. I like cooking on a gas hob but don't mind if the ovens are gas or electric. Width isn't an issue as we haven't yet designed the kitchen so we can allocate the space as needed and the kitchen will be a decent size so could take a largish cooker (but I need to be realistic about how many burners I really need!). Budget under £2000.

Any recommendations or ones I should avoid?

Thanks.

We had a Smeg that was in the house and which we bought off the previous owners - and hated it all the time we had it. It took ages to heat up (single large oven).

We replaced it a year ago with a Rangemaster and absolutely love it. All the rings work every time, the oven heats up in less than 5 mins and there is a grill. In fact, the burners are really controllable from high to low so you can get a very fine tune to the heat.

Thanks for the info.

I definately don't want to be waiting for a large oven if I just want to do some garlic bread for the kids. I like the sound of the Rangemaster.

My dream range cooker is the rangemaster excel. It has two main ovens, a grill and a dedicated slow cooker oven which I would like to replace having to get my slow cooker in and out of the cupboard. Lots of burners and a plate which can either be two extra rings or a griddle.

Think it may be over your budget though....

Actually, no it's within your budget here
It also comes, I think in black and stainless steel

But I can't have it till I extend the kitchen which will take us years to achieve.Sad

I love my Rangemaster completely! It has 5 burners, a grill and 2 ovens and was £1000.

Oh that does look nice.

We've been looking for a house to do up for years so you have my sympathy, my current kitchen is small and its a complete PITA. I hope you get your kitchen extension sooner rather than later.

we have the rangemaster excel. love how it looks. grill, ovens etc all v good. we use the slow cooker just for plate warming or keeping food warm though, don't think we've used it as a slow cooker yet (in a year). we have stainless steel but it's that brushed kind so not a total nightmare with fingerprints Grin

Another rangemaster fan here. Got one of these 18 months ago, and very pleased with it. Only quibble is the grill, it can be a bit awkward fitting things under, but not enough of a quibble to put me off.

monniemae · 12/09/2013 22:53

Actually our grill could be annoying if you wanted to put bigger things under it, but the multifunction oven has a grill in it too. slopes off to do more actual cooking

I can't wait for our kitchen to be ready, these are lovely cookers.

We have a Falcon Range for a decade and its excellent. Gas hob and two electric ovens (one fan oven). Not sure if it's in the budget but built like a tank. Pretty sure it around £2k 10 years ago, so might be a bit more now ...

Those Falcon do look good - thanks
