Hi, not sure where this belongs so hope might get some answers here. DH and I are building at the moment and I am deciding on kitchen layout. I had decided to get a range cooker as I like cooking and baking but having met somone today who hates hers I am not sure its the right decision and would I be better off with a double oven and separate hob. Concerns are around only having a fan oven and difficulties with baking and also if its really worth all those £££ when the other option does the same job. Oh please save me from myself and tell me why you bought your range cooker and are you happy you did. Thanks ever so much, FF

I bought one earlier this year and am pleased I did, although the cost of it didn't do us many favours as was paid for with my last wage before maternity leave (eek!).

I am just stating to get some decent use out of it as haven't been doing masses of cooking as DD is only just 5 months so I have been a lazy cow huge meals have been off the menu until recently.

I love having the 2 ovens and mine has 5 burners plus a warming area which I used for the first time last week and was great (very sad I know!). One of the burners is a double ring so great for stir-fry's etc and is very spacious so could use all of the burners without it feeling crowded which my old hob did.
The grill is very small and not much room to get pans in for browning, that said I don't use it much and one of the ovens has a browning setting which is great. I also love having a drawer in the oven for the trays etc.

All in all, despite the cost I love my range and am definitely pleased we bought it and know it will make Sunday dinners much easier in the future!

Hi
We have the Mercury 1200 which we have had for over 4 years and it is a great piece of kit!
2 ovens which are great, fab grill which rolls out and 5 burners, one being great for wok cooking.
It was not cheap however it is solid and has a quality semi professional feel to it.
When we bought ours It was made by Lincat(a company that makes equipment for the catering industry)however I believe they ave now been sold to Aga

I bought a house that already has one and I hate it, sitting on the floor to see if stuff is rising, bending down to bottom if oven with v hot trays etc. unless you get a wide one the side oven is useless and fits nothing in it. Double oven and separate hob every time for me, can't wait to change it!!!

I inherited mine from the previous owners but I love it and would not want to go back to anything else. I love the double ovens and the warming drawer. I love the double burner, great for the wok. It has a coffee warmer too, great if we drank coffee! Smile Lovely addition to my life.

I have an aga now but used to have a range cooker. It had 5 burners and a warmer on the top, and then 2 ovens and separate grill and then a plate warmer. There was a fan oven and a non-fan oven. Like most ovens, there are so many different variations that I'm sure you'll find one with the ovens set out as you want. Think they look nicer than a double oven, separate hob ... but yes, you are bent down to get things out so if you have dodgy knees, you might want something higher up!

mine came with the house Grin

after my last oven it's amazing. I love the huge hob, one oven is huge (I can cook three chickens at once in there), and the second oven is a good size and power for everyday cooking.

I hate the fact that bits of food get down the sides of the oven and the work surfaces.

As a tall person, I don't enjoy bending down to use the oven.

If I was redesigning the kitchen, I'd put in a double oven at my height (making sure one was huge), and a hob built into the work surface. I like a gas hob, but an induction one would be far easier to keep clean.

Thank you all so much for your opinions, its very helpful as no one in RL has one, everyone has separate hob and oven. I suppose if I wanted to future proof my kitchen I'd go with the separate options as no knee hip problems at the moment but this is our forever house so who knows. Gut instinct is to get one and see what happens, it will have worktops on three sides and the range would look really well on the far wall with a mantle over it. Will go to see some more models over the next few days and then make a decision as the electrical layout it being done at the moment so I have to make a decision and stick with it. If anyone else has any opinions I'd love to hear them. Thanks again, FF

I have the range master Toledo. 5 burners and a warming plate, one fan oven, one conventional oven. Separate grill and warming drawer. I've had it for 6 years and I love it. Don't mind the bending down. Side opening doors so you can get right up to the oven. Moving to a new house on January. The kitchen has seperate ovens and hob. I am Hmm

WhiteHairReally · 15/09/2013 23:33

I have both set ups. One house (which comes with DH's job) has two full size Neff ovens and a five gas burner hob set into the worktop above. I had these put in as I have to do regular 'big cooking'. Day to day, I've got used to having two ovens so use one as a plate warmer, whilst the other is doing the cooking! Sunday roasts are easy.
In the other house ( our 'own' house) we have a range cooker, that came with the house. It looks the professional business - stainless steel, 5 burners, one fan oven, one conventional, warming drawer etc, but I suspect you get what you pay for. This is a Baumatic. The smaller over is so narrow, you can't get plates in it. That's about it. You have to decide what sort of cooking you are going to have to do over the 'forever' part of your life.

Hi ...........I have a Rangemaster110 its now 17 yrs old and has served me well! Its been a joy to have two good size ovens, warming plate etc. I m now parting with it as I am also planning a new kitchen, and its fate because one of the oven thermostats wen yesterday! I now want something smaller and am thinking more eye level and easy clean. That was my only grumble about my gas range, a devil to clean. I have loved it though and its baked me 100`s of cakes for school fayres and many many scrummy meals.
