what to use to keep hard wood floors clean

We've just moved to a new house with a joint kitchen, dinning room and sitting area. It has nice wood flooring, probably some kind of laminate. Same stuff in our bedroom and bathroom.

Any suggestions for big brushes, floor cleaners that might help keep the dust and crumbs under control better than a soft brush & dustpan?

Lakeland do a Canadian floor mop thing that looks promising.

We used to use a brush but it had a foam head instead of bristles.

It was better than a normal brush but now we just Hoover the floors instead.
I think it's harder for wood floors to ever look dust free than carpet. Ours always has some hair or fluff on it.

We use a Hoover and then damp cloths.

Thank you. I am always worried the hoover will scratch, but that's probably silly. It's also not an option for the next few weeks post c section!

DM has something similar, she vacuums and mops the floor with a Vileda sponge pad mop. Her vacuum cleaner said 'good for wooden and parquet floors' or something similar when she bought it, but it's not an expensive one - it's a 10+ year old version of this. She also uses Method wood cleaner (she thinks it's the best, and it smells like almonds). When necessary she just uses a standard broom or dustpan and brush. The only scratches she has had occurred when she moved in and one of the sofa feet ended up scratching the floor.

As for the next few weeks... I recommend making someone else do it Grin

*she vacuums, and then mops the floor with the Vileda. It's not a magic mop.
