Dettol antibacterial liquid for washing: needed??

Was shopping and saw a dettol washing liquid - ingredient basically list disinfectant - products says at 30 degrees not all bacteria is killed, so you add it in with the washing liquid. I am thinking of giving up ironing but I do like ironed towels and tea towels for hygiene....just wondering if this is just yet another chemical and gimmick I don't need - and if anything cheaper that would do the same? Thought MN will know!! TIA x

I looked at the bottle , it is used in the final rinse because you put it in the conditioner section of the drawer.

This is probably a better alternative as you put it in the main wash.

I've got some!! (I like anything new cleaning wise - I know :/ )
. I've only used it on 2 loads of towels and I've had it at least 6 weeks (this is mainly due to the expense of it) not sure if it makes a good disinfectant (how do i test lol).

All I can say is that it smells lovely, it's a really nice smell.

I use it for stinky stuff like gym clothes and socks that can't be washed warm/hot.
works a treat for that.

nappisan does bleach clothes, so not suitable for darks.

Do you have a particular concern? I wash all clothes at 40C - that's what most of mine say to do, and I vary between cotton and synthetic cycles as necessary. I only do a cooler wash for woollens, which are not common around here but I have a few knitted baby gifts. I think they'll all be okay bacteria-wise.

Towels and bedding get washed at 60C for the cleanliness - just something that I grew up with, to kill germs and bed bugs and whatnot, apparently.

Personally, it just sounds like a bit of a gimmick. When did regular washing stop being enough?!
