How do you wash your latex/memory foam pillows?

The washing instructions say to wash it in a bath but it sounds such a faff? How on earth would you wring it out and surely it would take an age to dry?

Can they be washed in the machine or will that knacker them?

They're quite pricey so don't want to ruin them

They aren't designed to be washed , I don't know why it says that as you wouldn't get it clean and it would need To be spun and would then go out of shape . Mine say do not wash.

I always use 2 pillowcases on my pillows so that they don't need washing

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 28/08/2013 16:22

I binned DH's memory pillow. Despite a special cover AND a pillow case it stank to high Heaven so I just bought him a firm washable one.

You'll never get a memory foam pillow dry as they are super duper absorbent ( and make me feel a bit sick)

NorbertDentressangle · 28/08/2013 16:38

I do use a pillow protector under the pillowcase but reading another thread earlier made me feel guilty that I hadn't washed the pillows themselves (bloody mumsnet making me feel like a slattern Grin).

Maybe mine aren't memory foam then as they do have wash instructions on.

I'll check the label to see what they're made of but basically they are dense latex/foam and are Dunlopillo IIRC.

I have Dunlopillo super comfort latex pillows, I washed one on hand wash which was fine but it did take a long time to dry. I put one in on a normal 40 degree wash and it broke in half.

they are expensive, I've just replaced the broken one for £50. Mine were a bit many but with two pillow cases I'm sure they'll be fine. The new ones come with special protective cases.

'Bit manky' not 'many'

NorbertDentressangle · 28/08/2013 16:52

I've just checked - they are Dunlopillo 100% latex foam with a cotton cover.

They say handwash at 40, press between towels to get rid of excess water (Hmm ...how many towels exactly as surely they hold shed loads of water?!), dry gradually eg. in an airing cupboard and not to use any direct heat like tumble drying.

Imagine the faff to wash all 4 of them!

Are you sure there isn't an outside cover on them ? It may have a hidden zip . The instructions may refer to this .. I wouldn't wash memory foam pillows . They may break your washing machine if nothing else.

Never washed a pillow in my life Blush

MrsApplepants · 28/08/2013 17:34

I wash my dunlopillos about every 6 months. I put them individually in the machine on gentle wash no fabric conditioner and put them in airing cupboard to dry. Works fine and I've had them 4 years now.

NorbertDentressangle · 28/08/2013 17:39

MrsApplepants - does the label on them say they are 100% latex foam and handwash only (ie. are they the same as mine) ?

Mine comes with a zip cover, but I also use 2 pillowcases. I've had it 2 or 3 years and it's still like new.

Hello. It's been awhile since this thread has been posted on, but my memory foam pillow went through the washer and dryer! It's really heavy...I have it laying across clotheslines outside with baking soda on it. I squished it between dry towels enough to have a whole new load of towels. Does anyone have any other advice?? Can it possibly bounce back from this well intentioned mishap???

FrogFairy · 09/09/2017 23:50

I have never washed mine Blush

Tiddlywinks63 · 10/09/2017 15:35

I've never washed a pillow in 40 years of marriage 😊😊
They're regularly replaced, I use pillow protectors and change bed linen weekly or more often if necessary.

Bettyartist · 24/12/2017 11:29

My DH has just done this. Standing on soaking towels as I type. What happened with yours?

Bettyartist · 24/12/2017 11:31

That was to Aimsie7
