and I know the two don't mix. I'd like to get the pond covered over until she is old enough to be safe around it. Has anyone done this? Do you know any good companies?

We did ours ourselves - got some really strong rubber-coated wire fencing, angle-ground it to the right size, filed the edges and laid it over the pond.
Stops DD getting anywhere near and stops the herons too.
Not sure about any other way but I'm sure it must be possible. HAve you tried your local garden centre for advice?

Haven't got that far yet but I'm not sure our DIY skills are not up to the job. It takes us 3 months to change a blown light bulb if there are others that are still working!

Not sure where you are - just googled and found \link{http://www.pondsafety.com/\this company}.
Any good?

You genius! I'm in Surrey so will call them tomorrow. Thanks.

could you fence it off?

Blondilocks · 17/06/2006 22:50

We had 2 ponds with LO - both had frames with wire netting over the top. She never fell in (& I didn't either). I'd probably put a fence around rather than fill it in. Would be easier to remove when she's older.

I think the only person who's fallen in (well stepped in the middle rather than onto the other side) is my dad!

Blondilocks · 17/06/2006 22:51

I meant to say never fell in when I was a child as we had a pond then too. It's too late for typing!!

We've got a cover for our pond and DD1 has "tested" it for us once - She was down the bottom of the garden and then suddenly she was up the top by the pond and just, well, erm, launched herself at it! Shock The cover held her weight ok.

We now have a big wooden fence around aforesaid pond. (Was considering electric fencing.) Grin

Sorry, can't help with recommending companies to cover pond over. We have a small one within a rockery water featre and the initial attraction of throwing pebbles in it has worn off but it's the little friends I worry about (2.3 years). We are going to fill it with soil and plant it until she is older!!
