Help with silly freezer defrosting question!

I have a (rather old) whirlpool american style fridge freezer. The freezer does not have a defrost function - rather you control the temp via digital controls on the front of it. So, right now, freezer is set at -18 degrees. I need to defrost the freezer but not turn off the fridge. If I set the freezer to room temp (say around 15 degrees), will that simply do the trick?

I have the manual - you can't defrost freezer without turning whole fridge freezer off!!!

Why don't you leave the fridge switched on and leave the freezer door open then the freezer will defrost.

it will develop a huge amount of ice as the air from the room will condense on the cold parts.

Turn the whole thing off and leave the fridge door shut, it will stay cold for several hours, especially if full.

I always defrost my freezer without turning it off.

I use lots of bowls of hot water replaced regularly and the freezer temperature turned as high as it will go.
I have always done it this way. A friend runs a hairdryer over hers also.

Why are you reluctant to follow the instructions and switch it off?

If you have a coolbox then if you dont want to leave the stuff in the fridge then you can put it in the coolbox, othewise just leave the fridge door closed. You can turn the whole thing off and it will defrost in a couple of hours. I did this the other week .
