Best vacuum cleaner for hard floors

Hi, we've recently moved into a new house which is a mixture of wood and tile floors downstairs and carpet upstairs. I'm amazed at the amount of fluff and cat hair that accumulates! Our old house was carpeted throughout so it wasn't as noticeable. Our old dyson is cumbersome and not as effective as it once was particularly on the hard floors. I don't really want to spend a fortune so can anyone recommend a great vacuum for £150 or less.

Meile-even the cheapest will be better than the most expensive Dyson ime.

Thanks redhead. Meile aren't as expensive as I thought although the cat and dog ones are over my budget and we do have a cat so I'm not sure if we would be better off getting a pet one?

We have an upright cat and dog. Great on carpet but just ok on hard floor. Better imo than a dyson though - although my Dh prefers dyson.

I've just got the Miele Silence Solution - Amazing on carpets, pretty good on hard floors (far far better than my old dyson)
I'm only using it on the quiet option at the moment although you can also get more oomph but it's noisier and so far its has been unnecessary.
I love it after my heavy dyson, its so light to carry, for the first time ever it's really easy to do our millions of stairs.
I actually don't mind hoovering with this one which is pretty amazing as I've detested this particular chore for years.

I like the cylinder meile ones for my wooden floors. I have 2, one for upstairs and one for down

if you still have an upright, keep that for the upstairs carpets (which should not get very dirty) and get a good cylinder for hard floors and stairs.

Upgrights are better for beating dust, grit, fleas and moth eggs out of carpets.

I have the handheld dyson for my hard floors. Can't remember how much though. Possibly over budget.
