Toilet roll. No fancy scents/lotions, just strong, white & non-shredding

Once upon a time, I used to buy Sainsburys own brand toilet roll and for several years we were very happy together.

However, something must have happened in the last year, because as more time went on, I noticed that it was starting to fall apart, getting worse and worse as I bought each new packet. I got sick of having to clean the bathroom floor every day, because of the random bits of fibre that were created whenever I ripped a sheet off the roll, so I ended things with Sainsburys and got back together with Andrex.

I regretted it instantly. I'd forgotten how it's not actually worth the extra money, because it's meant to be the one everyone likes, but it's actually not all that soft, strong or long.

I picked up the fancy versions of Andrex. Aloe vera is feckless; just glides OVER your bum without absorbing anything (and rips), shea butter is tasteless and irritating; a nasty peach colour and makes me itch.

I'm really not sure where to turn next. I've heard some good things about Aldi, but I've had so many bad experiences, it makes it harder to take a risk on something new.

Would love to hear other people's experiences and advice on this one.

I've just started buying the 9 roll pack (green packaging) from B&M for £1.99. T'is bloody brilliant!

Another vote for Aldi - loo roll and bin bags!

Costco Kirkland. We ran out recently and bought a small pack of andrex. It seems like really cheap paper compared to sturdy old Kirkland!

Agree Sam

Nothing is as good.

What you need is Nicky toilet roll. You can buy it in Wilko's, Farmfoods or Home Bargains. Failing that Lidl's Floraly is excellent. We've just tried Aldi's and to be frank it was awful.

Andrex green label (Aloe Vera) - the blue (quilted) sheds as does the brown (cocoa butter lotion?).

If they don't have it and we have a week on anything else I swear and sulk inwardly.

I recently start using a new brand called The Cheeky Panda. It's made from 100% sustainable bamboo. There is no dust at all, unlike many other brands. We love it.

Another vote for Costco Kirkland loo roll here. It feels stronger and better quality than any I've bought from supermarkets, initially it doesn't feel quite as soft but I think that's because it's a tad thicker and I think that the thickness is actually the reason why I prefer it Smile and I certainly don't go through as many rolls as when I buy andrex, it lasts for ages.
