My dyson is dead. Any experience with their helpline?

My dyson is dying a long and painful death. I hate it. It spends its whole life just pushing buts around my floors instead of sucking them up like a good little hoover.

It is a DC33 which is code for Damn Crap 33. It is only 18months old and covered my their 5 year warranty.

I broke it about two months ago and called them up and a nice chap came round and fixed it.

Since then it has got progressively worse.

I've tried calling them again today and spent 45 minutes on hold and gave up.

I've been through their online troubleshooting thing and it tells me, after testing various bits and pieces, that I need to call their unhelpful helpline.

Angry

So, I expect I shall have to keep trying.

In the meantime, you wise GH gurus, please tell me if you've ever managed to get any decent help from them and tell me how stupid I am for buying a Dyson.

And while you're at it tell me which hoover is better.

Ta muchly.

Their helpline is GREAT.
My Dyson died about two months before it's five year warranty ran out. A Dyson person came out and put in a new motor and now it's like a brand new Dyson. I didn't ever clean it's filter, which is why it died.

Maybe you were ages on hold because it's a Sunday? I don't remember being on hold for ages. Keep trying, it's worth it!

Have you been cleaning the filters?

The helpline is amazing. They told me what to do and even called me back so I didn't have to pay for the call.

I got through... finally!! Grin

It turns out there was a small section of hose underneath that had come away from its hole so air was escaping. The advisor talked me through how to to reattach it and ten minutes later and a few scuffed knuckles and it's all fixed.

Maybe it must have been a lazy Sunday over at Dyson HQ. Lucky buggers. Grin

Oh and yes I am anal about cleaning the filters and it gets done regularly. I also take great pride in cleaning out the inside of the canister and washing the soft brush attachment. It is very satisfying to pull all the tangled hair from around the brushes! Grin

Their helpline I find rubbish. Called them twice, first time was standard (and I was mad as the Dyson had come apart in my hands as I was carrying it down the stairs, smashing at the bottom) Second time guy was snotty saying it would cost for an engineer, making it sound like I hadn't done what he had just advised me.

To be honest though I really don't think Dyson's are worth the hype they get, I really don't, they're not that good a machine in their own right and when you add the cost in - they're terrible. I've had far better vacs and I've had a fair few. But I have the DC33 too and so far no problems with the working of the machine (so far).

I like VAX (higher in the range models) I've also just got a Hoover Spirit which is good. Also have a Wertheim which leaves carpets absolutely pristine - really pristine, but don't always like pushing a cylinder around.
