Cleaning bamboo flooring?

Hi we are going to be changing our living room carpet for a hard flooring. Currently looking at bamboo but need to know how easy it is to clean and how wet can you get it, as in could you mop it or steam clean it?
We have children, dogs and cats so will need to be cleaning it daily and don't want to get a flooring that will be destroyed but too much cleaning.
Any help appreciated thanks

Hi VeryHappyMama It depends on the finish of your bamboo flooring. We have an oiled wax finish and quite frankly for two pins I'd pull the whole lot up and get rid of it. Unfortunately it cost an arm and a leg and I'm stuck with it. It's very difficult to keep clean. In high traffic areas it gets very very grubby and you really can't clean it well. In desperation, I now gently steam clean it, and sometimes take a bit of Cif to it as well. It stains as well, eg., when my evil beagle sometimes decides to do a little poo on it, the stain goes right in. It does eventually fade away after about 12 months but I recommend that you do not under any circumstances get an oiled wax finish. Get one that has a sealed coating on it, or you'll also have to remove and re-apply the finish every year. Sigh.

Gawd I'm glad I stumbled on this thread. Was thinking of forking out for lovely looking bamboo flooring all over the house pretty much. I'll take it off my list of wants now!

Thank you chinUpChestOut that is worrying. I am really struggling to find a suitable floor my other thought is tiles that look like wood but worry about children falling and cracking heads. I just can't cope with carpet anymore but it does sound like bamboo could be just as much if not more work argh!!!
Think will start another thread asking for flooring recommendations...

We have bamboo flooring in the conservatory, downstairs loo and bathroom. They all get steam mopped on a (semi) regular basis with no problems. I don't think there was any sort of special sealant on the planks, and we certainly didn't put anything on after it was laid.

I'd be having it right through downstairs (apart from the kitchen where I love my tiles) if I could only get DH to agree.

Thanks EasyFromNowOn I will have a look at what finishes are available. Maybe it could work especially if I can steam clean it.
I'm just worried a out spending a fortune and it getting wrecked
