The warm weather is great, but in the past week or so, we have suddenly been plagued with house flies and sometimes dirty great blue bottles. I detest them, they are so dirty and disgusting. And worse, they keep landing on me, they seem to have no fear. Any suggestions as to what to do?

I make sure there is no uncovered food to attract them, and surfaces are kept clean. Food caddy is emptied regularly and wheelie bins are as far away from the house as possible. I don't like the idea of fly spray as I don't want to be breathing that in. And those sticky things for catching them make me feel a bit sick, as I can't stand to look at them once there are flies stuck on them.

I seem to get flies, esp. bluebottles, when neighbours have dog visiting, so have learned to keep windows closed when possible, or net them.
Any indoors get swatted asap - agree it's not easy, and keep meaning to use mint/elder leaves to keep them out.
