Hi

Im in a housekeeping hole of hell, I cannot seem to get on top of it and standards have flown out of window weeks ago...well I'm ready to get back on track.

If you'd like to going in do so at anytime - probably be a slow moving thread easy to keep up with Grin

The list I need to write to get house put straight is huge, so for today/tomorrow I am going to write a small one:

Laundry x 2 washed and hung out
Dishwasher emptied and filled
Clean toilets and sinks
Fold clothes in kitchen into neat piles ) as opposed to jumble
Do packed lunch for DS (wed)
Cook evening meal (wed only)

There, that should be manageable as have toddler running about and DS to ferry about and an essay to write after bedtime.

Ive folded clothes
Wrestled a nappy off/on
Had toast and coffee for late lunch
Swept floor around table - least we can use it now

I am currently in a car with 18 full black bin bags waiting for the torrential rain to stop enough for me to unload in to the garage.

It's all nice linens so I don't want the bags wet.

(Moving house, rented a garage to help)

My immediate list is:

  • to sort out the ridiculous amount of paperwork in our house by actually using the filing system I set up
  • get back into a daily routine (I started using the priorities app earlier in the year and it really helped, but I've slacked off recently
  • clear out the spare room (people coming to stay next week, so that's quite important)
  • start listing things on ebay/gumtree etc (have a whole load of baby/toddler things taking up space in the spare room)
  • Clear out my freezer (full, but no meals Hmm)

Laurie what will you be doing with all that linen is it stuff your don't need anymore. I recently hummed and arred about giving 'Sheridan' stuff away, I ended up giving it to womens refuge charity.

DTis We had a bonfire last year - it makes me simmer how much stuff we end up with. What is your system? Do you think I could just get away with chucking everything but birth certificates, driving licences, passports and medical cards maybe insurance docs and house buying stuff. Do we really need to keep copies of bills f they've been paid and are online account anyway?

and..I have been meaning to list stuff forever and I was approached by women at playgroup who had organised a kiddie booty for charity - I immediately paid for a table and have a tone of clothes to sell, worth looking into for your area then you don't have the faff - anything not sold Im taking to charity shop.

YY to freezer - oh my the lack of organisation and flying by seat of pants has left me in such a hole.

For us, the problem the sheer volume of paper that that comes in and piles up all over the place. So I set up a system for filing things (e.g. things we must keep) and then a series of plastic wallets to put paper in as it comes in during the week:

  • stuff to file
  • stuff to shred (DH is obsessed with shredding anything that has our address on it)
  • stuff to do (e.g. put stuff in the calendar, scan important things to keep a version in the cloud, and I'd started doing things like scanning party invitations etc so I didn't have to keep the paper, things we need to actually do stuff with).
  • receipts

It only works if it's all dealt with once a week though - otherwise it just becomes a big pile of paper and things get missed. Like the car insurance renewal Hmm The idea is that when the post is opened everything gets sorted into the right wallet immediately and empty envelopes don't take over my coffee table

We still keep some bills, but I'd like to just scan most of them and save them in evernote. We do have popular markets for selling stuff - I just need to find the time to sort it all and price it up. I've got some really big stuff though - cotbed, wooden kitchen etc so easier to list that on gumtree I think.

feelingood · 30/07/2013 20:53

Thanks DT think i'll take leaf out of your filing system!

Yeah the organiser said I could take my crib and car eat along. If I can find the bolts I shall take the cot-bed with cot top changer too! I can't think what else is in the garage.

Ive cleaned out my clothes but I still have some I never wear and some have never worn, I can't bring myself to get rid as they are 'nice' dresses - I haven't a hope in hell of a) fitting in to them anytime soon, and b) having anywhere to go to wear them, its just they are the type of dresses I coveted for so long - stye are just sitting there like trophies - should I get rid, oh I don't know.

Well list for tomorrow:

Laundry x2 - need to buy washing powder
Packed Lunch
Evening meal
Clean toilets and sinks

I will add - 1 paragraph drafted for essay, I should be so bloody lucky (I need peace n quiet to do this)

feeling - I'm keeping it all, moving to a much bigger house - been temporarily in a tiny house for 8 years!

I can't wait!!!! - true, I do have to build a massive extension.

I know this is a decluttering thread Blush

DTisMYdoctor · 30/07/2013 23:33

So I started tackling the pile of paper. Didn't get loads done, but I've started!

feelingood · 31/07/2013 08:16

Its all moving the right direction then.

Laurie yeah, we are in our small 3 bed semi that was supposed to be just a 'stop gap' house as we moved into the region, but we've been here 6 years. I don't know about you but I won't spend any big money on it as I know we are not staying. I have nice ish furniture and decor that is coordinated but it is in no way to my absolute taste. I can't wait to get our forever home and do each room carefully - I sometimes fantasy shop on Laura Ashely website Blush

My plan is:
Take DS to workshop
I will sit in coffee shop with DD (asleep hopefully by then) and get some OU work done
The rest will have to be done when I come home later in the day.
