Brand new condensing boiler, would you take a service plan out or save for a service?

It's the only gas appliance in the house and heats the water tank too.

I've seen family members pay out loads for service plans and not get much back for what they've paid when they try and claim for new appliances etc so I'm wondering if I should just have a service once a year until its out of warranty (must check warranty) then get a service plan?

If it's new it probably has a 5 year warranty. I've always just paid for an annual service and then paid for repairs once the warranty is finished. It depends what the service plan costs. I think some people like the idea of a fixed amount per year rather than an unknown amount when it goes wrong. But lots of people seem to have trouble with those service plans anyway, with companies finding reasons for not paying.
