washing machine died with the door lock still on... help?

Title says it all. The machine tripped the main circuit breaker & now won't switch on at all. This happened mid cycle & all the clothes are stuck in the machine as the door won't open. Guy can't come out til Wednesday & boys are off to football camp on Monday (football kit all in the machine)! Full panic!

DH has drained the machine, but still no luck getting the door to release. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Any tips at all would be appreciated.

Been googling but most of the tips involve still having power to the machine. It's a Bosch Exxcel if that makes any difference.

If you have tripped the main circuit breaker, can you just switch the circuit breaker back on again to restore power to your machine. Then switch your machine to drain or empty an the door will open.

There should be a release valve somewhere - usually under the front of the machine but you may have to google.

Frontdoorstep - tried that first yesterday Smile As soon as we flip the wall switch to restore power, it trips the circuit breaker straight away, so we can't actually get any power to it iyswim.

worldgonecrazy - thanks... will have another google to see if we can find it.

Oh so helpful repair man said that he would need to see it first to advise about the door, but really could do with not waiting til Wednesday!

This happened to me (and it was just the handle which was broken)

I googled the make and model and door release and got simple instructions to take off the top and click it open. Easy squeezy. Ordered a new handle and replaced it, good as new. Felt very proud of my diy skills, Grin

Good luck!

If the machine is dead for good you might be able to unscrew the door? Only worth doing if it's drained, though!

This happened to us. If you unplug the machine from the wall and then wait 20 mins it should then open. It has to be actually unplugged though, not just switched off. Not sure why this works but this is what the repair guy told me on the phone and it did work!

Have you tried changing the fuse in the plug? It could be what's making it trip the electrics.

My Bosch (not exxcel though) has an emergency latch where the filter cap is, it is a tiny stick of plastic that you just pull really hard!
There is a video on YouTube showing how to open some washing machine doors from underneath or through the top.

Thank you all for the help! Yes, we did try changing the fuse... no joy.

Oh, and also tried unplugging, so it was unplugged for a lot longer than 20 minutes... still nothing.

Turned out that we needed to lift the machine and reach up to release the door from the inside! notso, that's the video we watched... couldn't find anything at all googling the brand + door release!
