Are they worth the extra money?

I did a few years ago but moved to a house with a built in one and buyers of old house wanted my old one.

Anyway...

I bloody loved it. I actually still miss it 3 years on. I pray my current one will pack up soon so I can justify another Siemens one. Does that answer the question a bit?! Seriously it was perfect. Amazing results, never put a foot wrong, quick wash was superb, spin was thorough and left clothes well tossed so they weren't creased. Also a good choice of programmes which I really did use and get the best from. Washed everything expensive and dry-clean, silk, wool etc.

I am now Hmm about my lovely old washing machine!!

Sure do! Plus the dryer and fridge freezer. Dishwasher is next to be Siemenised.

Looked around for the very cheapest price with the deal where I got the all in 5yr parts, labour, call out fee covered warranty for free with Siemens. (1400 spin..middle IQ range)

Appliances online were good (and price match as long as there's stock).

Sounds amazing! I'm looking at the model Siemens IQ-500 WM14Y590GB. Not sure if the model is new as can't find any reviews. Some of the cheaper models only let you use a minimum temp of 40 on some washes.

The household appliances are designed and built by BSH, which is a company jointly owned by Bosch and Siemens, and turns out appliances with the two brand names (and other brand names owned by the two companies). the two companies are in other respects separate. Both brands share high reliability and are highly rated by Which for performance and quality. The technology and components are similar. Siemens tends to aim more upmarket than Bosch and their pricier machines are often crammed with the latest wizardry. Some of them (not all) are rather expensive. In the "IQ" ranges, the prices go up with the IQ number.

You will probably get a long warranty if you buy from John Lewis, and they often have special offers.

I have some Siemens appliances, though not the washer.

Napkin type the number into all the price search engines and check to see if Siemens are doing the 5yr thing with that model.

Personally I think they're worth the money (esp with warranty) but I'm tight and skint so I always shop, shop around.

Depending on what price the iQ500 you're looking at comes in at sometimes the equivalent Miele are also worth a shufty (also with 5yr freebies most of the time).

PigletJohn · 23/07/2013 20:38

ah, this one with 5 year guarantee

napkin · 23/07/2013 21:33

Yes that's the one john. Not sure why it has no reviews. Not sure if it is a higher or lower model?

Definitely, I put our 5 year old one into a rented property ( and bought myself a Miele) as the tenants kept breaking the other one every few months, the Siemens is still going strong at 10 years old, no break downs, touch wood!

soupmaker · 24/07/2013 16:47

Yes. We have an XLM 1400 which we've had for about 7 years. It has been through a house move and still working fine. I run it empty on a hot wash every week to keep it clean and fresh as DH's work clothes always very dusty and dirty and the soap drawer can get a bit mucky if I don't clean it once a month.

napkin · 24/07/2013 17:54

Does anyone know if Siemens, Bosch and Neff are made by the same company? Their machines all seem similar.

mindingalongtime · 24/07/2013 18:11

That's the one we had soup

PigletJohn · 24/07/2013 22:21

neff is a brandname owned by Bosch. The neff company used to make stoves so the name is mostly used on cookers and related equipment.

There is quite a list of brand names owned by Bosch and another list of the names owned by Siemens.

Sometimes they use a brand name with a good reputation in its field, sometimes a company that is well-known in one or more other countries; sometimes they use a name for lower-priced goods to avoid dragging their main brands downmarket.
