Anyone any good with Dysons?

Mine doesn't seem to be sucking/picking up from the main upright function.

Something must be blocked, but I can't work out how to take it apart.

(Trad upright Dyson.)

troubleshooting guides - have you removed and washed the filters?

Casey · 15/07/2013 10:11

Done the filters. Found a helpful Youtube guide and took some bits off: all seems fine, no pipes blocked.

There was mention on the videos of a possibility of the drive belt being snapped: but I'm not sure where the drive belt is and how to tell if it's snapped! LOL

I am truly hopeless practically.

The drive belt seems fine.
I'm baffled.

How long have you had it?
We had ours years and years and it owed us nothing (think 2 house rennovations sucking up plaster and rubble) the dyspn people do services for £100 and replace anything needed and then guarantee it again so I basically got a shiny new one do £100, having given up on the shoddy £50 one from Argos ever actually cleaning stuff!
You just need the product number which is stamped on the thing somewhere!

ilovepowerhoop · 15/07/2013 11:02

did you go through the full troubleshooting guide for your model as it has a checklist of things to do? My dyson needed the cylinder bit replacing as it was clogged up

ilovepowerhoop · 15/07/2013 11:03

I mean the cyclone bit btw

MadeOfStarDust · 15/07/2013 11:06

Cyclone clogged on ours too - got an old fashioned coat hanger and poked it up - MY goodness there was a LOT of stuff in there - do it outside! I could not believe the sheer volume of cack that came out of the cyclone area, it was phenomenal - I bash it about a bit more when emptying nowadays and all is fine...

Phone dyson. Mine was playing up and they talked me through fixing it on the phone. They even called me back to do it. It's 6 years old too. Was most impressed.

Casey · 15/07/2013 11:29

Thanks for all the suggestions.

This is really old: about 10 years I think :-o So it owes us nothing!
But the motor and everything are clearly still fine, as it will still suck up stuff through the hose/nozzle attachments fine.

There's a guy on the market sells reconditioned ones for about £80. I may buy one of those and/or ask him of there's anything he can suggest for mine. Or if he wants to give me £20 for it for him to use the bits.

Sounds like good plan.

Rummikub · 15/07/2013 12:30

Phone dyson. As pp said, they will talk you through what you need to do on phone. Mine is the dc01, the very 1st series! And it's still going strong. Had a couple of parts replaced.

Imnotaslimjim · 15/07/2013 12:33

Make sure all the little holes in the cylcone aren't blocked. I found a youtube video on how to dismantle mine, it was like having a new machine!

What model number is it?
