Do you keep old magazines (eg bbc good food)

We are moving in about a month and i am trying to declutter.

I have 3 years worth of BBC good food magazines in the kitchen. They are neatly stored (in my opinion anyway) but the honest truth is I don't ever really refer back to them, I normally just go on the website. However, I love them, I like having them etc etc

Do I bite the bullet and get rid? My brain says yay and my heart says nay Smile

Never mind, I am 90% following my head and just keeping the current year!

I love the visuals of a magazine but again, use website instead. So I've just recycled them but kept my fave recipe clippings

Vivacia · 13/07/2013 15:29

Just chuck them.

HazeltheMcWitch · 13/07/2013 15:35

I a dreadful for keeping magazines, and I get a lot.
What I do now, is as I read them, I scan/upload anything that I want to 'keep' (I use my phone and an app called Evernote), then only keep the mag for a month or so, as I do re read them a bit, and others read them when they visit.

gardeningsarah · 13/07/2013 20:07

You could always advertise them on freecycle, that's how I managed to get rid of alot of my magazines. It saves putting them in the recycling bin. I would love to be able to keep all my magazines which are mainly Ideal Home etc but I am running out of space!

elQuintoConyo · 13/07/2013 20:42

As we were organising our tiny flat for the arrival of DS, I had to bite the bullet and chuck 8 years' worth of Empire magazine! It nearly killed me slight exaggeration
I spent the end of my pregnancy reading them all (and the odd reeeeeaaaally old one - Speed 1 anyone?) And then recycled them, sniff sniff.
Don't regret it for a minute.
I do have some really old late-70s/early 80s craft magazines for women, they are great, full of macrame, woodwork, how to make a kiln in your garden - very Tom+Barbara! They were my DGM's, not throwing them away, ever.

I's suggest getting an A4 plain-page book, cutting out recipes you use a lot or would realistically like to try, plus some tips, them recycle them.

LeoTheLateBloomer · 13/07/2013 20:45

Donate them to an early years/foundation unit. They're great for cutting up!

May09Bump · 13/07/2013 22:20

You could scan the articles you particularly like --then get rid.

ArtemisatBrauron · 14/07/2013 20:14

I snap pictures of recipes on my phone then chuck - am now ruthless with all magazines!

twinteresting · 14/07/2013 20:29

I have those A4 display books with recipes from about 10 years of delicious which we have stopped subscribing to now.

IThinkOfHappyWhenIThinkOfYou · 14/07/2013 20:49

I chucked mine about a year ago. I hung onto the Christmas ones but as I didn't actually look at them over Christmas I couldn't really justify it so they went in about Feb. It was nice having them but it's nicer having the space.

Seabright · 14/07/2013 21:09

I've freecycled lots. Makes me feel better that they have gone to a good home, rather than just recycled.

adinutza1 · 04/10/2015 09:22

If anyone is still reading this thread. I would love to have old issues of BBC Good Food, so you could send them to me. I will pay for shipment of course. I love this magazine, used to buy while living in the UK but I cannot get it in Germany. Due to shipment charges for Germany is a subscription too expensive for me.

Davros · 06/10/2015 21:32

Fire hazard.
Our attic is full of DH's old car magazines. Waste of (unused) space

Stripyhoglets · 07/10/2015 00:58

I keep the last 12 months worth. Or it gets out of hand!

Helgathehairy · 09/10/2015 23:08

adinutza if you have an iPad you should get the readly app. It's €9.99 a month (and there's generally a few weeks free at the start) and you can get lots of English magazine incl good food.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 09/10/2015 23:13

Get rid. I tear recipes out of them then chuck them. Scanning is a good idea as I do lose a favourite from time to time, though usually find them on the website.

DavesPiglings · 09/10/2015 23:39

I gave two years worth of good food magazines to the food tech department at elder spawn's school. They were delighted with them :)

DavesPiglings · 09/10/2015 23:40

just realised this is a zombie thread - when did the warning go?
