I have lists everywhere! Where do you make/keep yours?

Hi
I have a small filofax with notepaper in as I like to physically write things down. But it's very small so often I make a list in another big notebook.
Then I make lists in my phone as I always have it to hand.
With all these lists I'm getting confused and as a result achieving very little!
Any tips as to how to organise my lists better?

I have switched from post it notes and Filofax to my iPhone "Reminders". I set date/time reminders for each thing and then view the list by day.

The phone beeps at me when I need to do something. I then have the option to set a new reminder for a later date, or it shows up red in my list.

I refer to it constantly through the day. Seems to be working so far!

I do still like a good post-it note though. I also bought myself a weekly planner deskpad from Paperchase and can see myself running a duplicate paper/phone system as I do like to tick things off manually!

Thanks Poppy, I also set myself reminders on the phone which I find is great. I still feel I need separate lists though for other things that need doing but maybe not at a certain time/date. I do like the feeling of having it manually written down but I guess that means taking a notebook everywhere as well as my phone.

I found an app called cozi (free), got in on my ipad, android phone and can also go online, they all sync with each other, there is a to do list, shopping list and calendar. I had loads of lists in several different places before this.

I use wunderlist app. I can share lists on it with dh as Well so we have eg a list called big things to buy that we can both access if we happen to stop off at ikea or costco.

Appointments go in my Google calendar, Christmas lists go in an a4 note book, general lists - baby items to buy, deliveries due etc go on scribbless.Com fabby site.

I use an app called errands. It's free for the full app and its great. You can add lots of headings and alarms if you want. I put everything in this, such as, meal plan, birthday to do for dd. I've included long term jobs too with an alarm to remind me 'clean washing machine filter'. I used to have a Filofax, calendar, and lots of lists.

a moleskin diary has changed my life the last two years

the best one is calendar one side and blank ruled paper other side
just carry forward anything you need to
perfect handbag size

the only thing that doesn't go in here is meal plans / shopping lists, which are kept on scraps of paper on the fridge - if someone finishes something they must write it on the list or it dont git bought!

This is complex!

I have a running to do list that I just keep adding to, ticking things off. This is where I look when I have a moment and want to achieve something.

I also have lists on my phone in my notepad. But they are separate lists. So a list for things dp might like for birthday, a list of things already bought for dd for christmas, a list of codes for shopping, a list of when the library is open - that sort of thing.

Kind of works ok, but near Christmas I have to be careful. I have thinking time while dd is at tap, but then only have phone nearby.

Depends what the list is.
For things like lists of holiday packing, shopping, household jobs I have a notebook which I keep by my bed. Shopping lists get transferred to another notebook to take with me.
More important stuff - appointments, stuff I need to remember go in an A5 filofax similar to ppd's moleskine with diary one side and page for notes opposite

HollaAtMeBaby · 13/07/2013 09:14

Everything in my Android phone! Gtasks for my to-do list, ColorNote checklists for everything else.

Ooh, am going to give the Wunderlist app a try!

I am guilty of this too Blush So my new system is:

  • lists for important stuff to do, appointments, shopping etc are on my phone (just on the calendar).
  • stuff that needs doing/that I want to look into, but not urgent, goes onto a 'notepad' on my laptop desktop (a bit like stickies).
  • household stuff needing doing, plus reminders for DH, goes onto a small wipe board in the kitchen.

I find this better because I kept crossing stuff out, starting new lists, trying to consolidate lists and then ending up with tonnes of paper! As much as I like crossing out, with my new system I just delete/wipe out and it keeps it simple.

My mum is a big list maker too, she does things differently but still very managed. All of her work-related stuff is on her work calendar (as in internal electronic diary), this is synced with her phone, laptop and tablet. She adds any personal appointments/important reminders to this so she always has access to this info. Anything else, eg stuff she wants to buy, general things needed doing, goes into a very small notebook that she has (a bit like this, about 10x7cm). She carries this around in her bag and crosses off when done.
