July's Fledgling Flyers: Summer holidays are on their way and the clutter is going to FLY away

elliepac · 30/06/2013 20:33

Welcome old and new fledglings to the July Fledgling FLYers thread!

Thank you very much to cpmpy for leading us expertly through June- it's been a while since I lead so I can't promise to be as efficient but will do my best Grin. This will start by copying and pasting pmpy's original June postGrin

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month

BlueEyeshadow · 10/07/2013 14:00

Here are the linkies for ellie. Hope crisis is resolved and Grin at reason for MN being filtered...

Babystep 10 - the power of 15 minutes. Jess, Polkadot and any other newbies, this is a really important one. :)

Flight plan includes the mission, which is to clean out under the sink.

Wednesday is Anti-Procrastination Day which must be why I'm on here, instead of doing anything useful ;)

**

Good luck with the meeting.

PA! Lovely to see you, though sorry to hear about your mum. Wedding sounds wonderful though. :)

jesstheworstmum · 10/07/2013 14:00

jesstheworstmum · 10/07/2013 14:05

Just looking at the baby steps which are really helpful
What do they mean about the posted reminders bcos I think I could use them
My memory sucks
I wake up realise I have no clean school uniform sometimes for my son and feel awful so posted reminders sound good !!!!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/07/2013 14:36

Back from hospital, DS didn't need to be put under GA, but it was a bit grim, one of the pins had got buried quite deeply under the skin (they are meant to stick out a bit). Luckily it was a friendly and sympathetic consultant doing it rather than an inexperienced junior. DS was very brave. Haven't read all the posts, will catch up later.

jesstheworstmum · 10/07/2013 14:42

Who knows where the time goes - that sounds super traumatic for you both , pleased he didn't have to go under tho xx

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/07/2013 14:48

Thanks Jess - he fractured his wrist about 6 weeks ago and we have had endless appointments at the fracture clinic, hopefully just one more to go at the end of next week to remove the cast they put on today. He reacted badly to the general he had when the wires were inserted, so although it was a bit grim today, better really that he didn't have to have another one.

Swanhilda · 10/07/2013 14:56

I'm going to post and run Blush

done
constructive meeting at FT, Dh was v proactive Yay! we resolved to meet more often without children (I mean at FT rather than date night sort of meeting)
gave white teeshirts to a friend
met another friend for coffee
was given courgette and black striped tomato plant!
bought two cheapy passion flowers and a pair of shoes off market stall on way home from FT
ate some defrosted Persian lime casserole

and there doesn't seem to be much time left..oops better do some housework

PA aah, wedding, not surprised they felt soppy, what a lovely thing to happen, she must have been such a beautiful bride.
Brave of dh to stay behind, he will miss you tremendously I bet.
My sister now has a husband working in different country, it is tough but she is getting used to it.
SC I am v envious of the pruned garden. But delegating is in truth, the magic wand that we all need to change our lives. Well done, and don't lift anything heavy please!

Swanhilda · 10/07/2013 14:57

Whoknows ouch, glad consultant was there. Horrid to have to watch, but better not to have the GA.

BlueEyeshadow · 10/07/2013 16:22

Jess - the posted reminders is to write what we're supposed to be doing (dressed to shoes, shine sink etc) on post-its and stick it round the house. Most of us don't bother but there are details here if you'd find it helpful.

WhoKnows - yikes!

GoingGoingGoth · 10/07/2013 17:08

WhoKnows lucking escape re the GA, but ow!

Hugs to Trazzle, Honu, Swan and anyone else who needs one or Wine which ever works best for you.

Done
Beds
Laundry on
Dyed hair
Cleaned bathroom
Cleaned dye blob off carpet Shock
Hung laundry out
Did some "crafty" work
Went to Jobcentre to report on how "crafty"work is going -last visit Grin
Did a humongous shop (much bigger than a big shop)
Put most of shopping away (2 bags left, will do later)
Went to library

Jess don't worry about having to do shout outs, in my case it usually happens when I'm avoiding doing something. Blush

CHBitchy · 10/07/2013 17:24

Bloody hell whoknows I was very glad they decided to put ds under when he had his pins out.

Meeting done
clothes shopping done.
banking done
and a few other bits and bobs done

not much flying done today but anything is better then nothing and I have an insanely busy day tomo so hoping for an early night with more comfortable temperatures.

PositiveAttitude · 10/07/2013 17:29

I am glad that no GA was needed Whoknows, hope he can relax this evening and be a little spoilt! Wink

Swan we are not the only crazy ones then, being continents apart! I know it will be tough, but it is for a set time, so I just need to keep sight of the end of the tunnel and enjoy evenings without sport permanently on the TV!! Grin

Well, I have been rendered speechless this afternoon .......I know, I know, as rare as a blue moon! Flippin DS has got a job!!!!!!!!!!!! Shock Slightly envious!! bloody green eyed monster-ish He has been offered the same wage as I will get IF I get the job I went for yesterday! That's outrageous!!! He is 17 years old and should be working for peanuts!!!! He will be working about 3 times the hours I will be, so will be rolling in money! Not miffed at all, me!!! Envy Envy Envy

Loads of paperworkey bits done today and caught up with some boring but necessary bits and pieces.
Sorted out all my clothes and put away the winter ones. In desperate need of some nice summer clothes that now fit me as I have lost 4 stone over the past year.
Made some flapjack - not terribly successful, seem to have lost the knack slightly, a little bit crumbly.

Off for now

Trazzletoes · 10/07/2013 17:36

4 stone? Shock bloody well done!

PolkadotRosa · 10/07/2013 17:37

Hello everyone. Have managed to do under the sink! Woo Me! Another shit-hole hotspot bites the dust.
Have, after over a year, faced and dealt with the no-longer-needed 'doggy things' under there that belonged to our lovely old pooch. Mwah:( so that's in keeping with the anti-procrastination day too, I guess.
Whoknows eugh, wires, bone, yuk, faint. Brave DS!
Hello PA sounds like you've been missed!
Jess good going! Try doing the before-bed routine (or just the clothes-ready bit to start) and you won't have to wake up again with no uniform ready!
Thanks BlueEyedhadow just done 15 mins sorting some paperwork and I'm surprised how much I've been able to satisfy the shredder with in that short period!
Waving and smiling at everyone else!

PolkadotRosa · 10/07/2013 17:40

BlueEyeshadow even. Tut at myself.

CHBitchy · 10/07/2013 17:44

Also the load of washing every day thing helps with clothes jess but don't worry there are still days when there is school uniform issues here. Helped by laying clothes out the night before so a mad panic load of washing can be put.

CHBitchy · 10/07/2013 17:45

on.

Sorry hit post too quick ds is complaining that the chicken is taking too long to cook and he is hungry. Not that he didn't eat 2 bowls of cereal when he got in from school or anything Hmm skinny bottomless pit of a child

PolkadotRosa · 10/07/2013 18:06

Bitchy I second that about the daily washload (rather than my usual night-before-waiting-for-the-machine-to-bloody-finish-so-I-can-hang-on-radiator/shove-in-dryer-then-get-in-bed!!)
Also, my main Want is to be able to just take clothes out from our wardrobes to lay out. Never happens. Always have to bloody iron. So am usually ironing like a demon in the morning thinking "why did I not do this last night?!" Clothes/laundry are my nemesis. (Advice welcome!)

CHBitchy · 10/07/2013 18:11

I iron as i go so i don't get a pile of ironing. But it is easier with ds as he is old enough to leave the iron and ironing board alone and there is space to leave it set up. lazy

Trazzletoes · 10/07/2013 20:40

I never have a pile of ironing. DCs aren't yet at school so precisely nothing gets ironed chez Trazzle apart from work shirts which get delegated to a lovely lady after I was informed that my ironing wasn't quite up to scratch Grin I don't care if it means I don't have to do it!

PolkadotRosa · 10/07/2013 20:49

Trazzle I want a lovely lady to do my iron

PolkadotRosa · 10/07/2013 20:59

Oops... to do my ironing. Jealous!
Mine aren't at school yet either and do avoid ironing stuff that I can get away with, but most clothes come out of our machine like they've been crushed, twisted and scrunched, and feel they need ironing for fear of looking like nobody owns us! My DH's Nan did his (and rest of family's) ironing in days gone by, and she even ironed their undies! I hate having a pile of ironing, it bugs the life out of me, so I need to plan my attack and tackle it. Baby-step ironing ideas anyone??
