What's the most important things I need to start off?

I have a bed, some furniture and just went onto Tesco direct last night and bought a dinner set, bale of towels, block of knives, cutlery, roasting dish, mugs, glasses and wine glasses.

I am saving the new stickers from Tesco to get the pots and pans.

What am I forgetting?!

Cleaning stuff, Hoover, bed linen, bin

specialsubject · 13/06/2013 10:16

...all of which will probably be cheaper via ebay.

also a small toolkit, lightbulbs, and a phone!

Yonihadtoask · 13/06/2013 10:25

Have a housewarming party. People will bring you gifts :)

Iron, kettle.. Um.

Corkscrew , teatowels. laundry basket

I wouldn't know where to start from scratch now . Get an Argos book and flick through for ideas?

Enjoy your new home.

Yonihadtoask · 13/06/2013 10:25

Washing up bowl, draining board, cutlery drawer.

UtterflyButterfly · 13/06/2013 11:05

Congratulations! How exciting for you.

I'd add wooden spoons, tin opener, kitchen scissors, table mats (If you have a table!), dustpan and brush. A handheld rechargeable vacuum cleaner is useful if you can't afford a big one just yet (or a useful addition anyway).

Lampshades
Lamps
Mirror
Bathmat/ shower curtain

All good suggestions. The list gets longer - so expensive decking out a whole house!

I am getting a hoover from my granny so at least thats one thing out of the way.
I guess toaster and kettle are high up the list.
I am a bit confused about curtains, don't really know where to start. How do i measure/where do i take measurements from?

Toolkit, lightbulbs and phone - yes, yesm yes still need all that!

I am just so excited, not sure if any of you read my previous thread about the house sale falling through but god, i am just so happy. I cannot wait to move! Wheeeeee :)

Congratulations!

I'd suggest a torch and some screwdrivers in addition to the other suggestions.

Re: measuring for curtains, go onto any website that sells made to measure curtains and they'll have a guide to measuring.

Does your new home already have smoke detectors?

DTisMYdoctor · 13/06/2013 23:50

Baking tray/sheet & chopping board. Mirrors for the bathroom.

DTisMYdoctor · 14/06/2013 00:02

Clothes horse/airer, iron & ironing board, sieve, colander, measuring jug, coat hangers.

Do you have an ikea nearby? They're good for basic kitchen starter stuff.

ccridersuz · 15/06/2013 01:54

Measuring for curtains depends on a number of things, as it depends on the height of the walls and space between top of window and ceiling. You have a great variety of poles or rail systems to choose from. If a window is not overlooked you do not necessarily need curtains. The other thing to take into consideration is where you will be placing tall furniture or wall hung pictures or mirrors.
I would suggest you visit charity shops locally as very often you can find a book on making curtains, blinds and cushions, even if you have no intention of making them yourself they will explain how to measure up and different window treatments.

I bought a friend (who was starting from scratch for the second time Confused) a really good startbox from ikea . It had plates glasses and mugs in it. Also got her a pan box from there too. Go and have a look at ikea if you get chance. The stuff I bought is actually really good and really cheap
