Getting smelly BO out of clothes?

FadBook · 11/06/2013 08:46

I have always had smelly BO and I think the combination of using strong deodorant and sweating whilst wearing my suit jacket has practically ruined it, as there is a permanent smell in it now, even after a normal 30 or 40 degree wash.

How do I get what seems to be a permanent smell out of my suit jacket? It's a Next one, machine washable kind.

Would a hot wash change the shape?

Thought I'd ask the question before I chuck it Grin

This happens to DH's work t-shirts, - I soaked them in bi-carb, which worked a bit, then malt vinegar (i can't remember where I got that idea) - then washed again on a long wash as hot as the material could take.

Then hung them out for about 2 days Grin

It worked - but word of warning the colour faded - this may have been the two days on the line though.

And yes, a too hot wash may ruin the shape - but kill or cure eh?

I run long distance and get this if I don't wash my clothes quickly enough.

I usually just soak in really really hot water and scrub with a brush and detergent. Might not be a good idea depending on the material.

If its just the armpit area, use a toothbrush and a bicarbonate/water solution and scrub the inside of the material. Its worked for most of DPs stuff. Also add a vinegar rinse into your wash instead of fabric softener. It might smell a bit vinegar-y when wet, but left to dry l, ESP outside will get rid if the smell.

DP has awful BO and DD is a preteen who hates getting washed so I deal with it a lot!

Soak in distilled white vinegar and dry in sunshine.

In the stain remover section of the supermarket there is a product for smelly gym clothes which might remove the smell without bleaching. Worth a try.
