Stain removers? Bleach?

I've threatened DS1 (12) with a bib before as he seems incapable of getting food from his plate to his mouth without going via his front.

will get shot for this BLEACH! Get a little egg cup or similar recepticle. Put some bleach and water, about 40/60. Get a cotton bud and dab it carefully till stain has gone. Rinse thoroughly and wash as usual. on works on white though btw!

SenoraPostrophe · 28/05/2006 13:57

sometimes stains come out on the second wash so my first course of action is always just to bung it back in the pile. If it's white, I'd also rub in a little washing liquid as i did so and dry in the sun.

Miaou · 28/05/2006 14:00

I think this is spaghetti hoops - doesn't seem to face with time IME!

Bleach - there's a thought, I've got some ACE stuff, that might do the trick?

Brand new top too, she only wore it once Angry

You can buy a fantastic stain remover called De-Solveit. It comes in a little aerosol an can be bought at most supermarkets.
I used it on a load of old clothes of dds that were badly stained and been washed countless times and it got it all out. You name it banana, orange mush stuff, everything.
Really recommend it.

LIZS · 28/05/2006 14:15

stain remover gel or bleach , rewash then dry in direct sunlight

mazzystar · 28/05/2006 14:20

whilst we're at it any tips on getting orange crayon out of - er - everything?

lorina · 28/05/2006 18:36

Did you peg it on the line because normally the combination of bio powder and sunshine shifts that kind of stain. Comes out of the wash with a stain on but comes off the line clean .Works wonders for curry stains.

littlerach · 28/05/2006 18:44

vanish spray gets crayon out before it's put on the machine.

emkana · 28/05/2006 18:46

Hang it up on the line, the sun will get the stain out, always works.

poppiesinaline · 28/05/2006 18:55

another vote here for sunshine! It does work. I was amazed when I first tried it! I sound like an advert! LOL

Miaou · 28/05/2006 19:02

Sad well it still had the stain on when it came out of the machine - but I've just realised that I washed it in non-bio (duh) and couldn't hang it on the line cos it was raining - will try again tomorrow! (I won't let it beat me Grin)

staindevils

MrsBadgerAvecUneVoiture · 28/05/2006 19:05

bleach

soak overnight in bucket of dilute bleack (normally tells you on bottle how to dilute). Wash in morning.

(on the bib front, we have wipe-clean aprons for eating in - works a treat Blush)

Earlybird · 28/05/2006 19:06

There are some good tips here that I'll try on dd's new school shirt.... chocolate ice cream dribbled all down the front the other day....and it's still visible after washing.

Miaou · 28/05/2006 19:06

Why have you got a window, MrsB?

OP posts:
Miaou · 28/05/2006 19:07

Blush oops pardon my crap french, window is fenetre - what's voiture, car??

MrsBadgerAvecUneVoiture · 28/05/2006 19:09

yes - decided pedalling a cello was not a viable means of transport after all, and have put a deposit on a Saxo (hence the French)

it's very cute but am trying not to get too excited about it!

oooggs · 28/05/2006 19:11

soak in whites oxi action powder soloution - re wash (pop some more oxi in wash) then dry outside in the sun. Sun sun will finish off the bleaching.

oooggs · 28/05/2006 19:11

If you are not careful bleach will leave a yellow stain

ja9 · 28/05/2006 19:16

oooh, i've learned something new re the whole sunlight thing... interesting!

MadameClarydeClary · 30/05/2006 09:07

yes another vote for sunlight here, I find it gets rid of most stains (bizarre but true).
Another reason not to use the tumble dryer. Got three loads dry yesterday between rainstorms

FlameBoo · 30/05/2006 09:11

Sunlight here too - even if it is hung in a window for a few days.

KTeePee · 30/05/2006 10:42

Sunlight is quite amazing - in a previous existence my company was involved in research which showed that sunshine was the best thing for decontaminating places which had been affected by flooding from sewage - far better than Jeyes fluid, etc

Mirage · 16/06/2006 20:49

I have tried everything to remove tomato sauce stans from dd1's new top.Even bleach failed to shift it,as did leaving it in the sun for a week.

In desperation,I doused the marks in lemon juice, left it in the sun for 3 hours & the stains have gone!

Fantastic,I'm binning all those useless stain removers & sticking to lemon juice now.
