Washing machine change freaks me out!

My old, faithful, 12yr old hotpoint washing machine has started chewing up clothes (mainly anything that's really loved or expensive) and I'm going to have to replace it. I hate change and throwing things away that still work so this is going to be v hard.

Have started to have a look at new ones but not sure what I need to think about other than I'd like a timer so that I know how long each cycle takes. But what else?. Any advice will be gratefully received.

I hate change too. Have bought various new machines and all seem to bobble my clothes and snag them, don't know why but I think it's because they all use so little water these days. I wish I could have my old one back. Angry All my good clothes are ruined!

how much do you want to spend?

Bosch are generally very good, or Miele if cost is no object.

Wanted to get a hotpoint again as it has been so reliable and worked so hard. It needs to be grey or silver to fit in with our kitchen and don't really want to spend more than £500.

Might be worth pointing out that Hotpoint are now rated as one of the most unreliable brands of washing machines www.washerhelp.co.uk/buying-advice-5.html

You are restricting yourself with colour, but Looking at the "Which" reviews, free-standing, up to £500, the top best buys (including silver and stainles, no selection for grey) are (best first):

Hotpoint
WMUD942X
70%

Indesit
PWE91472S
70%

Beko
WMB71642S
69%

Beko
WMB71442S
69%

If you could tolerate White, top ones would be three Bosch machines whilch gained substantially higher test scores.

Bosch
WAQ28461GB
78%

Bosch
WAQ283S0GB
77%

Bosch
WAQ24461
77%

I always prefer Bosch (or Miele if you can afford it)

Get the largest tub available - my machine takes 9kg which is just bliss when I need to wash a duvet or do several sets of sheets at once.
