Would you mind sharing your thoughts? We are considering one but I'm worried. We wouldn't have space for a conventional oven too.

They seem really love or hate. I stay somewhere 2 months p/year which has one, but also has a conventional oven, so I've not really bothered to master the Aga, just used it for easy things. I do love it though, the warmth and the other uses for it.

Are they terribly expensive to run? Unbearably hot in an average size house? What is the smallest size you can get? Any thoughts really Smile

I loved the idea of an Aga and they are much better insulated now. However I went for an Everhot - all electric, much more controllable, easy to switch down or off, but still give the gentle warmth and are 'always on'. I've had mine for over 3 years and love it. Switch it right off only when we go away or (distant memory) when the weather is too hot. Smallest is 60cm wide.

We have a 3 oven AGA and I love it. We didn't get another oven so I was forced to learn to use it. I went to a demo at the local AGA shop to see the basics. The chef doing the cookery demo said a month to master basics and he was right. We use it for kettle and toaster as well.

We did put in a single gas wok ring to do stir fries as Aga not quite hot enough for them.

We have a north facing house so kitchen doesn't over heat. Friends who have south facing kitchens do turn them off in summer for a couple of months as room gets too hot. Which way does your kitchen face?

If we are away for a week or more I turn it off. It takes about 12 hrs to heat up again usually overnight.

Not sure on running costs as ours is gas so combined in bill with heating and hot water.

We had a gas Aga from the mid 90's and we removed it as it was very very expensive to run. Think £200 a month at gas prices 3 years ago. We had another oven as well but we had to switch ours off in the summer as it was far too hot. We are in Scotland so not exactly tropical temperatures.

£220 p/month Shock

I've not heard of Everhot - will Google now. Thanks for that. As I suspected, people either love or hate them!
