How do you defrost a freezer?

Have finally decided to defrost the freezer. Accidentally left door open last night and the top drawer thawed out a bit but because ice build up is so bad, the warning alarm didn't come on. So will have to defrost it. Only problem is I don't know how and I have integrated freezer so I don't know where I turn it off,

Any tips recommended

I tend to use a fish slice and a hair dryer. I am not sure this is the recommended method, however.

Is there a switch on your wall anywhere that isn't next to a plug socket? If so, that might be your freezer on / off switch. If not, I don;t know how you'd switch it off, but if you try and do it whilst it's switched on you're going to use an awful lot of electricity as the freezer will be working hard to lower the temperature, in effect fighting against what you're trying to do.

Turn it off at plug. pull out all draws. put a baking tray or drinks tray at bottom to catch melting liquid. old towels on the floor and leave it till its done. You may well have to chip at it with a fish slice or blunt knife.

Just saw that its an integrated freezer. If there is no obvious switch else where in kitchen you will have to pull out the freezer and look for plug behind it. I recently had to pull out my integrated dishwasher and was surprised at how easy it is.

Doesn't the frozen stuff thaw out by then?

Do it when you've got nothing like ice cream or lollys, normal stuff like Veg, meat etc should be ok if you put it all in a cool box/bag together until you're done.

The issue I have is I have a FRIDGE freezer....how do I defrost that without my fridge stuff going bad?

try to resist the temptation to hack at it with knives and fishslices. if you puncture a coil it will be ruined.

the bowl of hot water will do the trick, put it on a chopping board or shelf to protect the plastic from direct heat. The bowl will get chilled to change it for a hot one.

when you think it has melted all the ice, leave it open while you sponge the inside with WUL and make sure it has stopped dripping before you turn it back on. If it is a frost-free freezer this may take more than a day as they have ducts inside the back. If you can pull it out, clean the drip tray at the back which will be full of grime and mould.

You must turn it off at the switch or socket, some idiot body might have hidden it inside or behind a cupboard. What would you do in an emergency?

Put the contents in bags and boxes, loosely double-wrapped and packed together, to resist thawing.

Ok so freezer all done - took about 2 hrs this morning - turns out that the button on panel turns it off. Boiling water worked great and food didn't defrost - even superglued the doors back together

Thanks for your help

Hello! I just use a fan, really quick

I use a hairdryer and a plastic fish slice. Out all the frozen stuff wrapped up and into the fridge bit (it's a fridge freezer). Turn it all off and the. It takes about 20 mins. Turn back on and then after another 20 mins put frozen stuff back in freezer section.
