Yukkkk - got my son 2 kittens (god knows why) and now the whole of downstairs stinks of shite even when the bloody things haven't pooped in it. Any idea's/advice on how to make the smell go? I clean it out every time I see something in it new cat litter etc etc

Any ideas welcome thanks!

first, why isn't he cleaning it out?

second, there's probably a pile somewhere else. Litter trays need to be serviced daily, once the ammonia builds up the cats will go elsewhere. Also 2 cats means two trays; one may be stopping the other using it.

Silica gel cat litter really cuts down the smell and it can be bought cheap from home bargains. He could also buy litter freshener but if the box is cleaned regularly there should be no need for that.

Suspect OP's boy is too young to take responsibility.
Worth trying different types of litter.
We have got used to the odour, I think, stank so much early on and now I only sometimes notice.

We were using the paper sort of litter but have switched to wood pellets, which seem to be better at blocking the smell.

I wash my litter tray once a week with washing up liquid and good rinsing. It does seem to keep the smell down, with a complete new layer of litter. My tray is a large covered one, and the cover helps. There are also tray liners that you can throw out.

Use silica crystal litter. It's the best at odour control. I had an indoor cat for a few years and his tray was in my toilet. Tht was the only litter that did not smell and you can change on a weekly basis (just scoop out the poo when it's there).

Ive changed to the silica gel litter which seems to help! Thanks everyone I also got some liners which make it easier to change the tray so doesn't need to be washed as much as normal.
My son is 2 hence the reason he isn't doing it!!

we had this and the cats had used somewhere else in the room without us realising as well as using the litter tray. Move litter tray for an hour and follow your nose! Also, you need to change the litter every three days at least even if you are removing poos every time they occur. Bigger litter tray with a hood and a flap, they are good too...

Let us know if you find a big pile of poop - good luck!!
