what type of vinegar is used for cleaning?

im going to try a few tips i read but wanted to get some of your ideas. ive read a cup in the rinse cycle instead of softner is better for washing??

i tried the 50/50 water to vinegar and sprayed the taps and draining board, it dried streaky? doing it wrong??

i cleaned my glass dinning table with same solution, ended up wiping it down again with a damp cloth and buffing with kitchen towel cos it was streaky. should it be neat vinegar?

ive heard bicarb with vinegar is good for cleaning baths?

You need to use white vinegar, you can get it from supermarkets where the normal brown vinegar is.

I always use a cup of white vinegar in the wash when I am doing towels instead of fabric conditioner, basically put your washing powder etc in the drawer, start the machine and when it is filling with water, put a cup of vinegar in the same drawer, towels come up really fluffy and clean. This is also good for pet bedding as kills the smells.

You can also use it to clean the washing machine on an empty cycle.

I don't use it with water, not sure about using it neat either on taps or glass etc, you may be better off using a windowlene type product for that, some of them have vinegar in.

I do use it mixed with bicarb (it fizzes) and use that to clean the shower door, bath, taps etc.

HTH!

Where do you buy your white vinegar? I've only seen it in quite small (500ml?) bottles in supermarket and it's not really cheap.

ILikeToClean · 30/05/2013 18:28

I can only seem to find it in Sainsbury's and buy their own brand which is slightly cheaper, but yes they are 500ml bottles so it would be good to find somewhere that stocks bigger sizes - Amazon, ebay?

We buy ours in a spray bottle from the local cheap shop - £1.25 a bottle last time. It's labelled clearly that it's for cleaning, not to be used as a food product, and is shelved with all the other cleaning products.

It's fantastic, makes things all shiny and new-looking again Smile

Wilkinsons sell it in big spray bottles for not much.

newtonupontheheath · 01/06/2013 22:22

We get ours from the local Chinese supermarket. It was £2 ish for a 5 litre bottle. Bought it in January, and its still at least half full... and I've bought no other cleaning products since Grin

Spray bottles from the £ shop... 2 for £1

Don't mix vinegar and bicarbonate for cleaning. They neutralise each other, giving off carbon dioxide (the fizzing) and cancel out the cleaning effect of each other.

I use vinegar solutions for most cleaning now. I use a dilution with water of about 1/5 white vinegar and then a few drops of fragrant oil. I use different 'flavours' for different rooms, and keep a separate spray bottle and cloth hidden in each room. Seriously, this is how bad my vinegar cleaning addiction has become.

Meant to add that things that are new clean beautifully, but things previously cleaned with other products, such as the windows, do tend to smear a bit at first.

i just noticed it says malt on the bottle? i thought malt was the brown stuff?? Confused
