Coffee Pots - stupid question, what do you put in them??

OK, so I know it's coffee but what sort? I have a lovely coffee pot like thisso I thought the logical thing would be to swoosh it with hot water like a teapot, shove a cone/filterpaper/ground coffee on top and let it drip through. Result is a pot of tepid coffee - am I really missing the point somewhere?

Brew fresh coffee as normal (percolator, stove top, caffitiere ) and then decant into coffee pot to serve. Love it by the way! Great fan of EB

Think it will just have to stay looking pretty on the sideboard! (Or maybe I'll make a huge pot of instant) I only have an espresso machine, and I did try using my mum's cafetiere, but like the drip method it went cold v quickly :(
I suppose if I bought a "posh" instant then the pot is really just a way to serve it. Imagining sitting with coffee & croissants and Sunday papers (but realise the only way to achieve that in piece would be to wake at 5 am so no children could ruin the peace and quiet!)
I do like EB - in a use-it-everyday rather than a collecting way, Sunday dinner has felt almost civilised since we started dishing up in/on EB serving bowls/platters (all seconds and usually when there is also 20% discount as no way I could afford the amount I have full price!)

quite a coarse grind. If the pack says "suitable for cafetieres" it will be OK, if it says "for filters" it will come out cloudy.

heat the pot with boiling water and leave it until the outside of the pot is too hot to hold, while you boil a second kettle. Then empty out the pot and put the scoops of ground coffee in while the kettle comes off the boil (boiling water is a bit too hot for good coffee). Having the pot very hot first will prevent it chilling the coffee. Swilling a splash of hot water around inside will not do.

Stir very briskly to mix well and leave for a few minutes. Stir softly before pouring to settle the floating grounds.

Note that your pot pours from the top, so as long as you have settled the grounds, it will come out pretty clear.

Thank you :) Off to experiment...

give it a try

next time you buy some, look at the labels of the various packs, some will show filters (for a fine grind) or cafetieres (for a coarse grind)

Coarse is better for your pot.

Get small packs; once opened, a big pack goes stale quickly.
