Help!I'd like to give away soft toys (not charity shop) - where to?

just that, I have a lot of nice soft toys, plus some other toys that I'd like to give away to be used and played with.

not charity shop - they will just sit there gathering dust. (sad)

not sell on Ebay - I want to get rid of them quickly.

Nothing where I have to set up something, or wait about - just bag it, give it, done.

I thought maybe hospital waiting rooms/childrens' wards or hospices or libraries?
Would they take them?

Any other ideas? I really want them to be used and loved.

thank for any help

Some places can't accept second hand toys. Ask various places in your area if they do.

Ragwort · 25/05/2013 16:27

Do you have a local women's refuge or homeless hostel, something like that? Or the Salvation Army might take them to distribute.

amazingmumof6 · 25/05/2013 16:35

Jazz that's just the problem, I don't know what various places I should try.

I agree with the womens refuge (might be harder to find) or the homeless hostel. Or you could take them to a Children's center, they could use them for different activities/add them to their swopshop

VashtaNerada · 25/05/2013 17:06

Women's refuge would probably collect, especially if you had other bits to add (children's / women's clothes, toiletries, bedding, books etc)

JazzAnnNonMouse · 25/05/2013 18:38

The places you suggested sounded fine. Drs surgeries, dentists, anywhere you think children might be waiting.

ohmeohmyforgotlogin · 25/05/2013 19:02

Doubt drs will take them... Infection control means toys need o be wipeable

Kyrptonite · 25/05/2013 19:04

Nurseries/pre-schools might.

Local dog rescue?

I haven't met a dog yet who doesn't love a good teddy to chew/play/make friends with.

amazingmumof6 · 25/05/2013 19:11

these are great ideas so far, thanks!

keep it coming!

I think the refuge homes would be good as I have some other things.

Local toddler groups? Local Church / school fayres?

Ragwort · 25/05/2013 21:35

Do you really have 6 children? Grin Are you older children at school? Every school I know always has a 'teddy tombola' or similar to raise funds at the summer or Christmas fair. Could you offer them to the PTA?

amazingmumof6 · 25/05/2013 21:58

yes, 6 Smile
and they do (oldest 4) but last summer fair there were 3 massive bags of stuff left over was taken to the charity shop.
I don't want that.
I want to make sure they are appreciated.

I normally do my own jewelery stall (I pay for the table, profit's mine) but could put these things in a basket so if anyone wants them they can pay what they want and that would go to PTA fund.
same at nursery sportsday.

then what's left would be given away.

got some good ideas from here and I I'll ask around on Tuesday.

I'm a dentist and we had to get rid of soft toys because of the infection risk Sad so only plastic noisy ones for us.

amazingmumof6 · 25/05/2013 23:51

thanks MrsMorton, duly noted.

Text your friends to see if they or anyone they know might like them free to a good home. Schools may want them for role play areas (eg vets if there are any soft toy animals etc.)

Clary · 26/05/2013 00:44

I am sure your local school would like them for an adopt a cuddy toy stall at the school summer fair?

HarrietSchulenberg · 26/05/2013 01:06

You could try donating to your local Women's Aid - list here.

PigletJohn · 26/05/2013 20:56

freegle (or freecycle if you must)

you can put them through the tumble-drier to shake out dust, freshen up, kill dust-mites or moth eggs

I like to give away only small quantities per person to discourage resellers.

ngozimbaike · 05/10/2013 19:29

Hi
I will like to have the toys and any other educational materials for my foster children.

Thanks
