How to clean plaster dust from wood floors?

Can anyone help? Its driving me mad. After the mess left by the plasterers I cant shift the dust. I vac and mop the wooden floor and it comes back after it dries. This is also on slate floor tiles.

Is there anything anyone can recommend?
TIA

I use a cleaner for wooden floors on mine. this here I get it in tesco you might need a couple of washes to get rid of plaster dust though.

Tell me about it!!!
Hoover and steam mop is what we're doing

I washed my wood laminate 4 times, one after the other to finally shift the dust...

6 times now Sad! DD2 said "look at my magic mummy - I mop the floor, the white stuff goes and then by magic it comes back"
Grr. I think many washes will shift it

Are you using actual wood cleaner and not just Flash or something?

repeated hoovering followed by repeated damp mopping. Squeeze out the mop frequently.

Repeat.

Hi I currently have this problem thanks to the plasterer not covering our floor well, every time I mop a grey film appears back. Would buying a steam mop help?

PigletJohn · 27/08/2013 20:20

not really.

PigletJohn · 27/08/2013 20:24

it really needs a wet scrub to lift it, followed by sponging up the mixture of water and dust.

vigorous stiff brushing before vacuuming will lift some of it

t will not do your vaccuum cleaner any good, I always say hide your household vac when there is plaster dust around, and use a canister vac. Clean all the filters very frequently. I keep a spare set and wash them in water. A vac with a bag is better than bagless. Plaster dust is very fine and abrasive.

I second what PigletJohn said about the vacuum cleaner. A workman recently used my Miele without asking, to vacuum up the mess he'd made knocking a hole through a wall to reroute some pipes. It's now pretty much dead!

Re: cleaning the wooden floor, I have a mop-type thing with a microfibre head, which you can use dry or damp. I've used this dry, then damp on my floors and yes, it does take a few goes to get the dust up, but it's fairly efficient and doesn't involve getting on your hands and knees.
