Welcome to the May Fledgling FLYers thread! :-)
... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent.

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.
[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on. Thanks to SC, Blue, Silvery and Goth for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

Goodness, it's quiet on here today.

We have Lego and paper aeroplanes, Bitchy, but the two haven't been combined. DS2 does sometimes use live ants as test pilots though Grin.

My DS2 has also just made me a hot drink and carried it through to me because he knows I'm not feeling well. In his case, it is a cup of lukewarm tea without milk, which I will have to drink because otherwise he'll be upset.

Not dressed because I have felt rough today (chest infection, I think) and kept falling asleep. So the washing I was going to do hasn't happened. However, we are going out for tea with friends this afternoon and I am determined to go, so will dose myself up now. Thank god for make up.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Trazzletoes · 19/05/2013 14:05

Bitchy hope life sorts itself out soon.

Toffee get well soon!

I'm cleaning the kitchen floor to try and stop slug influx. We were meant to be going to a family fun day today but that was skippered by an ambulance ride to a&e this morning for DD (massive over-reaction by 111, but at least she was seen and treated and it could have been a lot worse).

NB. 111 is the medical number. Not 101. That's the Police. Mmm-hmm. Oops!

superfluouscurves · 19/05/2013 14:17

It's a surfeit of hair clips, chews, and Playmobil horses here Toffee and Bitchy....

Hope you are ok and glad you are feeling a bit more chipper this morning Bitchy Flowers
[Looks sternly over pince nez - make sure you nip that chest infection in the bud Toffee and don't let it develop in to pneumonia - take it steady Flowers

Having a lovely, lazy weekend with lovely sunshine. DD excelled herself singing two solos at Confirmation mass yesterday evening, in front of Papal Nuncio and 80-odd parents.

Pentecost public holiday on Monday. Can't believe how many public holidays there are this May over here. It's madness! DD only at school Tues and half day Wed and then is off on school trip Thurs/Fri for which we have just forked out Euros118 for sleeping bag, underlay and rucksack, honestly a hotel room would have been cheaper.

Wierdly, owing to complete lack of any pressures, felt full of energy and decided to get stuck in to a bit of tidaying/decluttering while forcing persuading dd to do her hwk. (Dh has gone to office for a couple of hours to catch up after trip.)

Spent one hour doing general "zero tolerance" tidy up downstairs. [If I allow one magazine or toy or sock to remain on sofa, floor, or table ... I turn around 30 mins later and a huge stack of junk has been piled on top] Another half hour sorting kitchen. Another half hour in laundry.

Somehow, decluttering with no other deadlines, school pressures etc is almost enjoyable!!

Hope you are all enjoying your weekends! Big encouraging wing flaps to all!

superfluouscurves · 19/05/2013 14:19

x posts Trazzles Crikey, sorry to hear aobut your extremely stressful morning, that's the last thing you need right now. Glad your dd OK though. Hope you can get some r & r today even if it wasn't the kind you had planned x

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/05/2013 14:51

Hi Grin

Im still here but not been on since friday morning and so many posts to catch up with!

I have done nothing in house really, friday I had a wedding in evening then yesterday all day was a write off as hungover then I was working last night til 6 this morning. Been in bed since 8 and just woke up at 3

I'm waiting on tesco shop coming then back into work for 6pm. My babies and dh have disappeared so would have been perfect day to get stuff done Hmm but will get stuck back in tomorrow.

Hope everyone has had a nice weekend!!

DorisShutt · 19/05/2013 16:27

Hungover. Soooo badly. Envy First time in about six years.

On the upside I decluttered by smashing a few bowls while pissed. Glass everywhere. That was fun... not Hmm

So, no flying done this weekend other than basic maintenance (very quietly carried out.

Back to normal tomorrow!

CHBitchy · 19/05/2013 17:03

Grin doris hoping that I get to avoid the hangover tomo. I have taken the advice of a good friend and stocked up on chocolate and vodka for tonight. I have no early start tomo so that is a bonus. WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/05/2013 22:44

Evening all,

Happy Birthday for tomorrow Narky - enjoy Ikea.

Bitchy - hope things are OK.

SC- sounds as though you are back on top form.

The last few days have been quite hectic, went out on Thurs and Fri nights (Thurs night to a quiz evening, Fri night to a Robbie Williams tribute act, which was better than I was expecting TBH). Family fun yesterday included a lovely long walk in the afternoon, DS never used to be keen on walking but Cubs seems to have had a positive impact in this respect and he suggested a much longer route than I had planned.

Flying wise - DH is much more likely to take over the routine daily stuff at weekends now, which is brilliant as I can get on with a bit of decluttering and tidying. He has also cleared, tidied and pressure washed the patio and wooden patio furniture so it looks much nicer, I can't believe I used to do it with a scrubbing brush before, love the pressure washer. I have sorted out some big piles of clutter into one for each of the upstairs rooms to be put away tomorrow, changed and washed the DCs bed sheets and am about to go and menu plan.

Night all.

GoingGoingGoth · 19/05/2013 23:10

Woo-hoo! Work done for 4 days! Now to get on with some real work- Flying!

Only scanned the thread so Happy Birthday for tomorrow Narky

Will catch up properly tomorrow, laundry is the priority tomorrow.

CHBitchy · 20/05/2013 02:26

Yeah am ok. just need sleep and focus. the strong drink helped earlier. chilled me out a bit. still drinking so there is time for it to all go down hill yet. And there is a fox outside who wants to meet a water bomb. if I could be arsed to go fill one up to throw in the meantime am working on a plan. I had forgot the rule of a strong drink to aid thinking on complicated stuff. Student days are far to far behind me nowadays. yet to decide if this is a good or a bad thing

CHBitchy · 20/05/2013 04:45

Urgh lost track of time. It is definitely a bad thing I am too old for pulling allnighters!!!

CHBitchy · 20/05/2013 04:46
BlueEyeshadow · 20/05/2013 09:42

Happy Birthday Narky! Thanks Enjoy Ikea.

Bitchy, do you need a Brew after the strong drink?? Wink

Right, I have no PC and no work so I need to harness the power of 15 this morning. Timer is on now for MNing and general social mediation and then I'm going to do 15 min bursts of decluttering the office interspersed with 15 mins reading. Wish me luck!!

superfluouscurves · 20/05/2013 10:41

I'm with you Bue similar schedule here! Flying this am, then taking dd out this pm (Pentecost public holiday here)

Hope you are enjoying your birthday Narky (Wine for later) !

Take it steady Bitchy!

Waves to Goth Newbie Whoknows Castle and everyone else

Shock news - have already done today's mission! Shock

Turning my attention to sock, bra and pant drawers now ...

CHBitchy · 20/05/2013 10:56

no but sleep wouldn't go a miss. Was hoping it would knock me out. only thing it did was to increase clarity of thinking Confused Clearly I am not doing this drinking thing right Hmm

Working on a ta da list. bbl

GoingGoingGoth · 20/05/2013 12:13

Afternoon all.

Slow start this morning, but getting there.

BBL

superfluouscurves · 20/05/2013 13:09

You obviously need to up the alcohol levels Bitchy Grin

Pant drawer sorting on hold until dd does her religion hwk. So far have tried falsely jolly- positivity, "let's make this in to a game", bribery and calm, earnest persuasion. Gearing myself up for slightly more earnest persuasion, firm instruction, direct orders before I lose my temper and start screeching--.

Deep breaths, one ...two... three... four ...
