How often do you wash your bedding?

I have been trying to do mine and my four children's beds every week but finding it impossible and feeling guilty! How often do you honestly do yours and your children's? Hoping its less often than weekly so that I can have peace of mind!!!

Who'd have thought even a topic on changing bedding could turn into throwing insults. Glad we don't all speak to people in real life the way people do on here, I'd be reluctant to leave the house if that was the case!!!

I must be a mucky Mary, prob change ours every 3(ish) weeks depending on how organised I'm feeling. Shame on me :-)

Thank you ladies for all your replies, shame the thread had to contain some mud slinging, each to their own, it wasn't the intention to cast judgement on people just to get a rough idea of how often you realistically get round to the dreaded chore!! Thanks all x

Once a week for ours and dds bed once a month for dss as he's only here every other weekend and I iron it all hate getting into a crumpled bed

Bunbaker · 21/04/2013 12:47

"In this day and age, nobody dies from unwashed bedding, so don't worry about it."

No, but in DD's case hers needs to be regularly washed at high temperatures to keep her clear of asthma and eczema. I don't iron sheets and duvet covers and they aren't crumpled.

Yonididnaedaethat · 21/04/2013 12:58

My DS every day (bed wetter), DD gets done whenever she changes her bedding (she's nearly 15 so I never go in her room), mine gets washed about every 3 weekish.

BastardDog · 21/04/2013 13:12

Varies, depending on how I've been with my night sweats. At best I wash the bedding twice a week, at worst fortnightly.

Kids are teens so they do their own. Dd weekly, ds probably every month to six weeks.

mamij · 21/04/2013 19:48

Love fresh sheets, and aim for weekly, but more likely every 10 days or so. More often if DDs are ill or sick.

carolinecordery · 21/04/2013 20:29

Blimey, mine get changed when they look dirty, every couple of months probably.

HoneyStepMummy · 22/04/2013 16:53

Once a week. I strip the beds, throw the bedding in the wash, tumble dry it, then back on bed. I never iron sheets. Our duvet goes to the drycleaner a few times a years, kid's go into the wash every few months.
Dirty sheets never killed anyone, but bed bugs are on the rise and so are dust mites!

Doughnutmaestro · 23/04/2013 22:57

Whenever I think of it, which ill admit isn't often on average I'd say once a month, ds is nearly two and his is slightly more regular.

Beamur · 23/04/2013 23:02

Weekly but I don't have a set 'day' so it could be a couple of days more, not less though.
If anyone is unwell or sweaty (like DD has been lately with a cold) I would change more often.
DSD came back from Uni after the first term having not changed his sheets for the whole term...!!! He kindly brought them home to be washed - whilst they smelt pretty stale, they were not as minging as I was expecting! I did wash them twice on a hot wash before they smelt properly clean again Grin

tabbycat15 · 02/05/2013 09:28

I change all of ours weekly but on different days. 1 queen size bed & 3 singles. I am in Australia & can get them dry on the line all your round. If we have a really hot night I might change them again the next day.

musickeepsmesane · 02/05/2013 09:38

Can I ask about ironing them on the bed?? Is that not really difficult as quilt is soft and I think some of my quilts would maybe melt (cheap). Also, I recently bought a clothes steamer which is useless and I wondered if I used it after bedding is put on the bed would it smooth the bedding and kill mites at the same time? Any shortcuts appreciated co I is a lazy bisom!

OrbisNonSufficit · 02/05/2013 10:14

I aim for weekly. Reality is more like fortnightly. Duvet less often as we use a top sheet so it doesn't really get dirty, usually monthly.

I'm in awe of the amount of effort daily sheet changes would take (that's two loads a day just for sheets!)... 50bales how do you find time?

Bananasinfadedpjs · 02/05/2013 10:34

Once a week for me and DH.

It was once a fortnight for the 2 kids, but DD1 has started wanting to "help" me change them, and wants to do hers every week at the same time too.

I have 3 linen sets for each bed, and plenty of drying space, so I don't have to worry about drying times. I do try to iron them all before putting them away in the airing cupboard, but that often doesn't happen.

putyourhatonsweetie · 02/05/2013 12:32

weekly. sometimes I lie on internet chat forums

freddykins · 02/05/2013 15:54

Oh my goodness! I only change our bed when I remember ... about once a month in winter, every couple of weeks in the summer? But our LO (6 days old!) has had a clean Moses basket bottom sheet almost every day, just from a bit of spitting up.

noddyholder · 02/05/2013 15:55

Every weekend and pillowcases every other day

wiltingfast · 02/05/2013 15:55

Monthly if I'm lucky.

Prob less for the kids!

Def don't iron any of it.

smoothieooo · 02/05/2013 16:03

Every 2 weeks (although I may do it more regularly as the weather gets warmer). It's so much better since I got DS1(14) and DS2(13) to change their own sheets as part of their (paid) chores.

Off topic but Music - I haven't heard/seen the word 'bisom' for years (something my mum used to say all the time - 'ya dirty wee bisom')

smoothieooo · 02/05/2013 16:03

... and not a chance I would ever iron any bedding whatsoever. Life is too short.

noddyholder · 02/05/2013 16:04

Iron it? Faints! I have all white cotton so it can all be bunged in together and towels too Makes life so much easier
