Outdoor clothes drying - washing line or rotary drier?

Love the smell of freshly dried washing from outdoors but currently all I have is a clothes horse on the lawn with things draped over it. Obviously then clothes often get blown off or entire horse collapses onto lawn.

Rotary driers seem expensive and a bit of a faff with concreting in the base

But washing lines are a mystery to me - have been googling them and can only find two flimsy posts sold by homebase or argos. No decent info online about them eg how they are put in ground etc. Also, although i have a large garden, there aren't any useful trees or walls to put one end of the line onto - so would probably have to have two posts which might be a bit of an eyesore.

Does anyone have any outdoor drying recommendations? Are there other options I'm not considering?

Meant to say as well ...reminded cos just put a load out...
I made my own peg bag - although you could probably adapt one of the cloth bags/ikea bags...it ties round my waist - kind of like a market stall pouch...fantastic no bending no stretching -just there ...
and it has a hanging loop too -so can hang up in cupboard / on one of drier arms if nec...
Loving the idea of those folding crates - I have the net pop up ones (4 cos use them for moving stuff up and downstairs too and they are easy to store) - but now you can only get them from the pound shop and they are really flimsy - I still use one of the original ones I got (have sewn it up a bit) that cost £6 or something...it has outlasted about 8 of the pound shop ones..
(now I really must get a life...Smile - or hang out the next load ...)

I like my clothes line. I think it looks much more attractive than my neighbours rotary.

We've got a pair of metal poles propping the line up in the middle.

Ok just looked up Rotamate.co.uk - the dragons den cover...selling them on their website for £9.95 plus about £4 delivery payment by paypal ...cheap enough to give it try (rotaire ones seem to be £50!)
Just ordered one ...Smile

Or buy a laundry basket with foldaway legs. Brilliant!

I have a brabantia walk fix line, looks like a rotary but attached to a wall. It's a thing of genius, & folds right away into a wee cover thing.

It's been going a decade and is still in fine fettle.

I got my builder to put clear plastic corrugated sheeting on a wooden frame along the side of the house. It's shielded from view by a high wall. I've put 3 wire clothes dryers under it. The rain is largely kept off, except when there is horizontal rain! The wind tunnel effect speeds up drying. I dry outside even in winter, a day or 2 outside and then indoor for a finishing off with a dehumidifier. In the summer it can be dry in hours. Must have saved a fortune on electricity.

Rotaire dryline. (rotaire.com)

British invention from small British inventor.

Has a cover on top. You can leave clothes out all day and not worry about the rain. Fantastic. We use ours from March - November. Helps save money, the planet and keeps clothes in good condition.

Support the small folks who are trying to make a difference!
