Buying Miele undercounter fridge - purchase from Appliances Direct or Miele.co.uk?

I'm buying the Miele K12012 S-2 with an icebox in. Has anyone shopped from Appliances Direct before? From Appliances Direct it is £319.97 with 2 years Warranty.

www.appliancesdirect.co.uk/p/k12012s-2/miele-k12012s2-freestanding-fridge

Straight from Miele it is £370.

So where should as buy it? With companies going bust lately, I'm not sure if I should buy it from somewhere I've not shopped before/heard off.
WWYD?

Incase anyone is interested, I never shopped with Co-op before but there warranties seem extremely reasonable, £29 for extra three years! Miele themselves wanted £179 for three years. I think I would be stupid not to pay that.

Actually, yes, the price of the extended warranty is pretty good. I would have thought you are unlikely to get any problems with a brand such as Miele...

MinimalistMommi · 07/04/2013 18:13

That's what I thought...but at £29 I think I would be silly not too with Sod's law and all that...I think I will investigate the top cashback thing too and save my self that extra £6 too.

I never thought of shopping with co-op before for electrical goods, they have a 60 min time slot delivery which is amazing!

Yep, they seem pretty good. Good luck with your purchase!

MinimalistMommi · 07/04/2013 18:17

Thank you! Thanks

kitchen worktops are always normally 600mm deep, and appliances are made to fit under them

Sometimes tall fridge-freezers are made slightly deeper, I don't know why.

Topcashback is very easy to use. Just sign up and use the link from their page to the company website which then tracks if you make a purchase. It can take a while for the payments to be made in some cases but it's all extra money for very little hassle. I always check now when I'm buying online and most companies do some sort of deal on there.

MinimalistMommi · 08/04/2013 13:33

Thanks Rachel I signed up and made my purchase, every little bit helps! just waiting for it to be delivered now
Thanks

Minimalist, I wrote to Miele to find out a bit more about the exact depth measurement and whether the door racks are adjustable. Apparently, the door racks are adjustable. That could be good as if I acquired it, I might want to add an extra door rack.

Re. the dimensions, the manual they have sent me states that the depth is actually 61 cm (instead of 62.3 cm) so it is possible that the 62.3 cm measurement includes the depth of the door handle.

When are you due to get it? I am nearly as excited as you must be. Grin

MinimalistMommi · 08/04/2013 17:52

Rat yay about the info you discovered! Great news if the depth is 61 as I don't mind about handle sticking out slightly!

It is due to arrive this Saturday (I could have had Friday but Saturday was a better day for me to take delivery) I will apparently get e.mail Friday evening with 60 min delivery slot from Co-op which seems impressive that we don't have to wait in an entire day.
I am very excited as we desperately need the icebox! Feel guilty about sending kids to school with sandwiches that will be warm by lunch. Apparently it's heating up this weekend too! Grin

Minimalist, I queried it further with them and apparently, the 62.3 cm definitely includes the depth of the handle, so that is good.

I am still looking for your confirmation when you get the beast though. Wink And then you can also tell me whether there would be space to add an extra door rack.

MinimalistMommi · 08/04/2013 18:14

Im looking forward to the beast arriving Grin I will let you know. Great news about the depth.

I hope the shelves are Ok, the middle one looked a bit rubbish to me, I know from bitter experience that having eggs in the door is not a good idea here - the kids knock them out and smash them and the shelf looked quite shallow for much else - but it was still best fridge I could find for our needs so fingers crossed it will be OK.

And Rat I will let you know about door rack. Could an extra one be purchased then?

OP posts:

I assume so, because they are bound to sell spare parts in case you broke any.

Typically, the price of spare parts is extravagant though.

By the way, it comes with 2 salad crispers. They had told me that they sell one bigger salad crisper that would fit the model. I just think that a big salad crisper is better than 2 smaller ones (if you have leeks, etc.), but if I purchase all the extra spare parts I am after, then the total price of the fridge will be not far off £400. Hmm

My 22-year old fridge seems to have perked up though so I may keep it a bit longer. I am keen on keeping an eye on the models that are out there though, in case I need to change it in a hurry!

MinimalistMommi · 13/04/2013 15:03

Well Rat the fridge looks amazing! It's missing a fridge shelf though Angry

Minimalist, I had just logged in to specifically check progress on your thread. Wink

Re. the shelf, is it an omission then, and will they deliver it to you as soon as they can?

What about the dimensions?

Is there good storage in the door? Could you add another rack in the door, or not?

Am glad you like it... despite the missing shelf!

MinimalistMommi · 13/04/2013 17:39

Rat yes the shelf was a mistake, as it shows three in pic and it states it in specifications one is being sent out from Miele, they are contacting them Monday. It's being sent Royal Mail.

The dimensions are good IMO, it is the same as my old fridge. It's does stick out slightly from under work top but then my old fridge did slightly too.

Am very pleased with door storage, seems very, very strong in comparison with fridges in past with flimsy door storage. There is another space for an extra shelf but I can't see how it would work. While it would slot in, you wouldn't be able to put stuff in there bc of shelf above IYSWIM.

Am extremely pleased with it, seems very spacious despite the icebox. The icebox isn't too skinny either. Easily get a pizza in there and a box of ice creams. Or a few ready meals Blush and a bag of frozen peas if need be. So glad I have somewhere to freeze my DC's ice packs for lunch boxes now. I love my new Miele fridge Grin

The build quality of the fridge seems extremely high quality. The only negative is the salad crisper seems a bit flimsy. I can see it cracking in the future. Is that the sort of thing replaced under warranty or not? I have also had to contact the Co-Op again today when I realised there is only one large salad crisper, in the specifications on the website is states two but in the pic shows only one. The instruction booklet shows two small salad crispers, so it seems strange. The Co-Op are phoning me on Monday after contacting buyer/Miele about this and he said he didn't know how it would be resolved. I fear that the big salad crisper would be more likely to break than the two small ones as they would naturally carry less weight. Co-op customer service seems very helpful and polite. And they did delver within the 60 minute time slot they e.mailed last night.

If you wanted you're welcome to PM me your e.mail and I would be happy to send you 'real life pics' of the fridge!

Thanks, Minimalist. I have PM'ed you. I hope you get a satisfactory resolution to the shelf and crisper problem.
