Which vaccuum would you buy?

I have no idea which one or where to start. We haven't had our own vaccuum for a number of years. The one we use from the department is useless, it creates dust, the bags for it are obsalite so the bags we buy dont quite fit and when a bit full fall off. It's a nightmare, takes twice as long to Hoover with as it should and it weighs a ton.

So we have about £200 saved, maybe a bit less. So which vaccuum would you recommend? I've googled but the ratings are mixed. I could do with some guidance. Thanks. :)

Try Which? They regularly do buyer's guides for vaccuum cleaners and you can trial a subscription for £1.

I have a basic vaccuum cleaner from Sainsburys, it cost £20 or £30, I think, and it's just fine. I have never previously bought a vaccuum cleaner as they usually came with the house whenever I moved.

I've just bought this one, and I'm still getting used to the weight of an upright rather than a drag-along (where you're just mowing the wand back and forth). However, the drag-along bit of a drag-along used to give me terrible backache (legacy of SPD in pregnancy), si I'm pleased to have switched. An upright is also much more compact to store, and this one seens to have some sort of turbo function on carpet, which propels it forward itself, meaning less effort. I haven't done enough hoovering yet to be ecstatic, but it seems good

On a related matter, Shark slso did my 2in1 steam cleaner, which is a real housework saver!

I've had the same Henry for nearly 9 years and it's still going strong.

Thanks renter I too have issues with spd and a dodgy hip thanks to dc number 3. I will check out the shark and the Miele as they seem popular. Thanks again.

Another vote for the Miele here.

Thanks everyone, I think we've chosen the Miele ecolne. Which have given it a higher rating than the dyson dh wanted and its cheaper.
I think we'll get it from John Lewis as they seem to be a good company. Cannot wait to place the order and return the Electrolux filtaire to stores, it's so noisy and heavy. We've never owned our own Hoover before so this is quite exciting. Thanks once again. :)
