How often do you dust?

So, had an interesting 'discussion' with DH this morning, where he was expressing that he doesn't think the dusting gets done often enough (he didn't actually say it was down to me, but this is clearly implied Angry). So, I wondered how often people dust?

I tend to dust & polish when we have people coming over Blush so probably once every 1/2 weeks. For background, I have 1 DS at home full-time (23m) & one DS at pre-school each morning, 9-12. I work 1 very full day (out 7-7) & we go to groups/on playdates for roughly 2 hours each day. He is out of the house 8-7.30 every day.

I used to do it every week. DM only ever dusts when people come over and my Granny used to religiously dust every week, on the same day every week. I don't always have time any more for everything weekly so I do the obvious bits which show up any tiny bit of dust weekly (or as close to weekly as I can) and other bits when I notice they need doing Blush

not very often
my GP says it is bad for you. It is better settled on the surfaces than up in the air, apparently.

SoupDreggon · 20/03/2013 16:44

when I can write my name in it

Or, more accurately, when one of the children writes "dusty" in it.

Dull women have immaculate houses, in case anyone needed a reminder.
MIL's house is immaculate Grin. MNers, by definition, are not dull women.

emess that is A TRUE FACT - I know because I have a fridge magnet that says so Grin

About once a fortnight, with wet wipes or a damp cloth. I should do it more, as I'm allergic to dust mites but I can't be arsed.

elQuintoConyo · 23/03/2013 10:06

Twice, maybe thrice (oh so posh!) a year. Dh doesn't do it so it's down to me and I can't be fannied. To be honest no one notices, no one we know is scrupulous either. We have tiled floors (abroad) and I was delighted to discover I wasn't the only person who goes over a sicky spot with a wetwipe before visitors arrive Grin

I was brought up in a house where the dusting was done every day Shock

I dust every couple of weeks downstairs and when I can remember upstairs.

DS's do their own rooms - which basically mean they keep their computer screens dust-free!

OverWintered · 24/03/2013 08:26

Some places that are highly visible like coffee table and skirting up the side of stairs get wiped off quite often as I notice them. The rest gets done prob about once a month, if that. I have a small soft brush attachment on the hoover and so I hoover most of the surfaces with that! really speedy way to do it, a cleaner recommended I do it like that years ago .....fab!

Msbluesky32 · 25/03/2013 15:00

Tbh Im pretty terrible, maybe once every ten days to two weeks - more often if we have visitors. I try to do it gradually though, rather than blitz the whole house in one go. DP doesn't give a jot, he would leave it longer if it were just him. At the moment he does the hoovering because we are expecting a baby in two weeks and I just can't lug the Hoover about. This means hoovering is done even less often. Our house is pretty tidy though...

MissBrown · 25/03/2013 16:24

Rarely to be honest.

The only surfaces that bother me are the blinds and the glass tv stand. If I can swop the blinds for verticals and put the tv on the wall I reckon I could it less than that.

Am seriously getting a cleaner in though.

CrazyOldCatLady · 01/04/2013 15:12

Rarely. When the shiny black piano starts looking matte and grey I'll throw a duster over it, and I'll do any other obviously dusty surfaces on the way back to the kitchen with the cloth.

My plan at the moment is to declutter (even more) so that there are fewer things to get dusty. Empty surfaces are way easier to clean!

TheWildOnes · 01/04/2013 17:31

I do what a pp mentioned and go over as many things as possible with the circle brush on my hoover about twice a week, I use actual polish about once a month.

Meglet · 01/04/2013 17:35

I've never dusted, been here 9yrs.

I can't get to my surfaces, too much sodding clutter on them.

ShatnersBassoon · 01/04/2013 17:41

Every other day, but only because of the blasted black glass TV stand that attracts dust. I dust with the hoover though, dusters just flick the dust to another surface.

specialsubject · 01/04/2013 19:28

rather more frequently than before the logburner was installed!

SilveryMoon · 01/04/2013 19:31

I do it once a week. Would do it daily if I had the time.

HermioneHatesHoovering · 02/04/2013 08:37

Dust is a protective covering for furniture Shock

HepzibahFlurge · 02/04/2013 15:32
