Need a new hoover, recommendations please..

so, our hoover has finally died, a Miele Cylinder one. It's lasted years and has worked really well. Need to get a new one to replace it and so confused as to what to get. Do I go for another Miele or try a Dyson? If so, which one?

Toying with the idea of the Animal DC44 cordless one but am worried about the expense if it doesn't end up being powerful enough to be the main hoover. Love the idea of a lightweight cordless one though but how good are they really?

We have a 3 bed house, mainly wooden floors with a few large rugs. 2 young DCs, no pets

We have that DC44 and it is really ace. You have to empty the cylinder every time you use it but that's quite good fun because you can see all the crap you've picked up.

However the charge only lasts 20 min. we haven't run out of charge yet but we have a small house (and, if I'm honest, are a bit slack about housework).

Get a sebo! We have the automatic one and it detects the type of floor and adjusts accordingly. Ours gets used a lot (too many pets) and no problems at all.

so would you say it's as good as a 'normal' hoover?

It would be fun a challenge to try and do the whole house in 20 minutes. Once the charge has gone, how long does it take to recharge it so you can use it again?

are sebo those robot ones & don't they cost ££££££££?

Another vote for Sebo. They are a German brand of vacuum cleaner, nothing robotic! I have the X4 one. I discovered them on Amazon as they had the best reviews and most satisfied customers. I've had mine about 3 years and it is fantastic in every way. I have wooden floors and carpets too and it does both equally well. I goes completely horizontal too so I can get it right under the beds too. Its very easy to manoeuvre and the bags are easily changed.

Would you prefer an upright or another cylinder?

I gather you have few fitted carpets.

I don't know why but I think I would prefer a cylinder (thinking of stairs maybe?)
We only have 1 room with fitted carpet

Then get another Miele.

There's nothing better.

Sebo. Had ours 10 yrs and it survived being used 40 times a day during a huge build we did.

Dyson's are not what they used to be now they are mass produced in China

if a Dyson's a no-no I might stick with what I know then and get another Miele (boring)

The sebo has a stair attachment so you can use it like a cylinder too!

This is mine and yes afraid you do have to push it around rather than it doing the hoovering for you

giraffe does it do a whole flight of stairs with the main hoover at the bottom or do you have to carry it up & balance it on the stairs half way up, or do one lot from the top IYKWIM? (I know everyone has a different amount of stairs but..)

I have the stair attachment attached to an extra long hose that I keep separately. Our stairs have a landing part way up but I can do the whole lot from the bottom (15 steps).

We have the Miele with the parquet floor attachment - best money I've ever spent on a household appliance!

Another vote for sebo. I love mine and have converted many friends. Had mine for six years and still works like it was new.

As another plus point to the sebo that I remembered today when I had to do it, it all comes apart really easily if you get a blockage somewhere (we're enjoying the hideous post pregnancy moult which would provide a challenge for any vacuum!)
