cleaning an armchair

we have a very comfy armchair that we picked up from a charity shop. But it was once cream and is now showing the dirt. But worst of all, it pongs a little bit. Just of grime, nothing worse.

I've no idea how to clean it. The covers are definitely not removable (I've checked).

Thanks Smile

Have you got a steam cleaner?

Otherwise a brush and cloth with detergent on it and lots of dry cloths or towels to soak up the wetness. Could also put a weak solution with lavender or some essential oil that smells nice on it. ?

Then leave it in a warm room or dry it with a hairdryer or something. If you left it damp in this baltic weather, the smell could be bad!

I don't have a steam cleaner. I'm not convinced scrubbing will solve it. Sad

I think I'll try the scrubbing, anything would be an improvement! What should I use other than elbow grease?

I'd be tempted to try a few wipes on it, surface or floor wipes, choosing a smell you prefer, as should be easier to get it dry afterwards.

Bicarbonate of soda left on for a few hours and hoovered out will deal with the smell.

We have a steam cleaner, and beige sofas, two kids a cat and a dog. The steam cleaner works a dream, but I have to do it once every couple of months.

Do you know anyone who has one you can borrow? Failing that, it's worth hiring an industrial one from B&Q or Homebase they're brilliant!
