Question about online food shopping

Hi
I'm going back to work soon after ml and am trying to find ways of getting more organised before then.
A friend suggested doing the weekly shop online. I think she said she has a list saved of all her regular items she needs each week and this is automatically delivered to her at the same time each week. She only has to go on and add new things if needed.

I've had a look tonight at the various online sites but I can't see where you can do this. Is this correct as it sounds very handy? I've always been put off at the thought of spending a whole night on laptop trying to compile the order.

Also I have a delivery pass which costs 6.99 a month. I can have as many deliveries as I like as long as it totals £40. I usually only do one a week but it still works out very good value.

This is so helpful to me thanks everyone. I like the sound of the delivery pass for £6.99, that is very good value as once I paid £5.00 for one tesco delivery.
Onelittle is your 6pm Friday slot automatic or do you have to remember to go on and select it earlier in the week? Do you use a delivery pass for this?
I actually live 3 mins drive from Sainsburys so I do feel guilty and a bit lazy doing online. But the thought of going there fills me with dread especially with one or both children, I am always putting it off! Then I'll forget stuff so dh has to go on his way home! He is not keen on online food shop so I might suggest we trial it. I think it would help when I'm back at work and also it would make things easier for me as I have arthritis and can find the whole food shopping trip exhausting!

Jester with Ocado you do need to book your slot earlier in the week. I find this works well as I book the slot, meal plan and add things I need, then as the week goes on just keep adding every time you remember something else, right up until the night before the delivery is due.

QuickLookBusy · 06/03/2013 10:10

Sorry I should have said, you don't necessarily have to book earlier in the week, just that people do to ensure they get the slot they want.

I usually do book in advance but if I need a quick shop I can order the day before, but obviously not as many delivery slots are available.

Since DC4 arrived I have done Tesco Saver. £60 for unlimited deliveries (no delivery charge per order) in 6 months, so long as it is £40 per shop and a max of 1 delivery per day. I am now do 2 smaller shops per week getting them delivered 8-9pm when kids are in bed. Means I am wasting less as I can see in fridge, less is going off through not being eaten. Also my head can do meals 3-4 days ahead as we know what we are doing each day rather than trying to plan 7 days ahead.

First order takes time but if you enter your club card no then everything you have bought on that is already there as an option.

another satisfied Ocado user here. I have chronic migraine and its been fantastic - saved DH a lot of time that he was spending in supermarkets (almost every day as he kept forgetting things Grin)
We tried Sainsburys a few wks ago as had a discount voucher - not impressed. The meat all expired the day following delivery or day after that.
Other fridge items had really short expiry dates too.
With Ocado the expiry dates are longer and you get a list of the items and expiry dates which helps with meal planning.
I can now browse and buy food I like, after 5 yrs of DH's choices (he really tries but ...) - I really don't know why I didn't try this earlier. I sit in bed with ipad and I've bought some really interesting food items which I'd never have found in ordinary supermarket.

plus they have good discounts on various items ie all Nivea half price at present

DeafLeopard · 06/03/2013 13:37

Jemster, give it a try - there are usually discount codes for first time shoppers to tempt you in.

SlatternismyMiddlename · 06/03/2013 15:48

Sainsburys are doing £12 off your first online order at the moment. Even if your delivery is £4 you are still £8 better off.

Hi,

I've just seen this thread. These might help you. £10 off first online shop over £50 at Sainsbury's.

And the same offer for Tesco

www.myvouchercodes.co.uk/tesco

Hope this helps. I use Sainsbury's for my online shop personally.

I'm an online shopping convert. I started doing it when I put a proper family budget in place. I never made it to the supermarket regularly because I disliked going. When I did go I'd end up spending far too much. It's so easy to deviate from a list when surrounded by the temptations that supermarkets offer. Especially if you happen to drift into the clothing or homewares section! I always got a nasty shock at the till and it left me feeling quite anxious about money. Online shopping means I can very easily stick to a budget and I feel much more in control of the finances.

I use Sainsbury's. I used to use Asda but I prefer the 1-hour delivery slots as opposed to the 2-hour slots offered hy Asda. The Asda substitution policy is good though, as mentioned upthread. Sainsbury's charge you the price of the substituted item which could be more than the item you ordered.

Try it!
