Toilet brush

We bought a new toilet a few months ago and find that the flush leaves several areas untouched requiring the need of a brush (You'll get what I am talking about).
We have a round brush which does not get into the corners and an old and fairly well used one which is straight and gets in the corners. It's a bit manky and the brush and the holder do not match.
So, I thought I would buy a new one. Trouble is, you can't see from the outside whether it is a round brush or a flat one either in reality or on the internet. All you see is the holder. Any ideas how to get round that?

You can still buy "open" holder toilet brushes in some places, so can see with packaging still on, Lidl has sold them. Just keep hunting.

Feelingood · 02/03/2013 18:21

Put one of the coloured toilet cleaners in your cistern instead. Toilet brushes are no no's.

Dutchoma · 02/03/2013 22:10

How will that deal with the skid marks? Will have a look at Lidl, thank you.

Well they contain cleaning agents which will dissolve them and the colour and foam will disguise them until they go.

There have been threads about toilet brushes before...

Dutchoma · 03/03/2013 10:38

I'm talking about skid marks above the water line. Thanks for the suggestion of other threads about toilet brushes. I really was after some suggestions as to how you could find out about the shape of a toilet brush before you bought it, not about the (dis)advantages of using one.

Sorry dutchoma

I spray them, then i wipe them. I expect DH to do his own.

DeathMetalMum · 03/03/2013 19:12

Wilko sell cheap ones a pound or two, which you can see the shape of the brush.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 03/03/2013 19:16

You need the Lucy toilet brush

I'm not sure why that one's so expensive. I used to have one and it was much cheaper than that. Now we've redone the bathroom we have one of these but it just doesn't do the job as well so I might invest in a new Lucy and keep the Versace just for show.

If you can't find a Lucy, you could buy a cheapo washing up brush or three and keep them in a carrier bag in a cupboard. Probably wise to write 'bog brush' in permanent marker on the handles, just in case.

Dutchoma · 04/03/2013 10:05

Sorry too, Feelinggood to me that is far more yuk than using a brush, especially as dh is so ill he could not possibly be expected to do that, but there you go. I looked at Wilko and they only had round ones where I am, but will have another look before I invest in the Lucy brush, that is exactly what I wanted Plentyetc Grin

It is!

Hope your DH picks up soon ( sorry I don't know what wrong so hope that's not inappropriate) I thought the Lucy one looked kind of smart and a hint of retro.

Dutchoma · 04/03/2013 13:09

Thanks Feelinggood. No unfortunately he will not 'pick up' any time soon, but we are coping with it all. Having the new toilet was one of the coping strategies, having an appropriate brush for it another. So Lucy brush here we come as soon as I have sorted out that there isn't anything cheaper at Wilko's.

you need one of these www.scjohnson.co.uk/nqcontent.cfm?a_id=5859

I love it, you can clean all the bits of your toilet, give it a really good scrub, then just flush the dirty end away!

PigletJohn · 04/03/2013 13:53

if you are in a hard water area, the limescale gradually clogs the flushing waterways, so the flush is less effective, and also makes the inside of the pan rougher and more retentive of soil.

If you put a Parazone Bleach Block in the cistern it will, over time, dissolve the limescale from the cistern, inside the rim, and the pan.

You won't believe me, but if you want to give it a try, take a photo of the scale in the cistern the day you first put one in, and then again after a couple of months, you will find it's true. It doesn't work with ordinary scented/coloured blocks.

Dutchoma · 04/03/2013 14:18

It's a completely new toilet, Piglet, only been in three months. But the shape is different from the old one and a round brush does not get into all the corners. A flat one does

Duck fresh brush. Can use half a pad at a time, or even scrunched up toilet roll. Discrete and easy to clean imo.

jazzandh · 04/03/2013 14:31

oops sorry see TheSlug suggested the same.
