We are currently on the last stretch of decorating most of the ground floor, this week the kitchen breakfast room( about 50% of the downstairs space) is being done and the dust is horrendous , not helped by the fact that I have an awful cold and breathing is difficult anyway. On Monday the hall floor is being sanded so more dust.

Am trying to Hoover but its even in the drawers ,is it best to wet dust or dry dust and then Hoover , there is a thin film everywhere and it feels like the whole house is a dust bowl.

Some!

get a canister vac, it will ruin your domestic vac

sweep up first

finally damp-mop and damp-sponge.

Do a search in DIY topic?

I think I was recommended to buy a HENRY vacuum cleaner. Or rent some industrial type vac as the fine dust may ruin your existent normal one.

And cover up everything before the sanding on monday!! especially electronic equipment. Put it in plastic bags if you can.

RedundantExpat · 28/02/2013 18:52

and as someone rightly predicted, you will have dust for months to come. Brace yourself.

Knew I could rely on mmums net. The sander man tells me there will be no dust because his machine sucks it up hmm I don't believe him , would like to tape up the doors but not sure dh will let me , he thinks I am being melodramatic.

The thing is the kitchen was only being painted but there is still dust , I know it will be worth it in the end but I've had enough at the moment

I have george and henry so hoover, damp dust then hoover again!! I've had bedrooms kitchen bathroom new doors and windows since august so getting used to liking dust!!!

purplewithred · 28/02/2013 19:13

THERE WILL BE DUST! Easiest solution is to move house, failing that repeat hooverings including the walls. My preference is hoover, damp dust where necessary, then see how I feel. Normally Wine by that stage.

Duck tape sheets over doorways to keep it contained.
