What kind of mop do you have?

We need a new mop as the old one which was a sponge type one with rollers has given up. The head could not be replaced Angry so the whole thing went to the dump.

Tell me about your mops, please, MN! Grin

I use a string mop and bucket. Something like this.

I order them from work so they are the ones that are industrial, with the bucket that has the wet floor sign on.

Once you have the shaft and bucket, you can buy packs of mop heads. They last forever in a domestic setting. Not so much at work, have no idea what they do to them! Grin.

I've had loads of mops, and I do like a fancy gizmo, but they never last long. These are practically indestructable.

A thing with floppy fingers that look like strips of J-cloth. Vileda make one but you have to buy their own refills which are expensive. Wilkinsons do one that is good. Tesco Value brand one with white fingers is useless.

I don't like the string ones, but mine are a similar more disposable idea, you can swap heads for a pound or two and they can go in the washer. The plastic mop bucket with a squeezing cup is essential.

ah, they call it a strip mop. Must have gone up.

I've got the same as oreocrumbs. Nothing fancy, does the job well and I usually throw the heads in the washing machine to get more use out of them too.

Steam mop I find it very therapeutic!

chubbymomie2012 · 27/02/2013 06:54

i have a microfibre cloth mop from tesco. wicked but my dad bought me a steamer for christmas and its the bees knees

KatyTheCleaningLady · 27/02/2013 07:58

I never liked roller heads. They always break and they're expensive to replace if they're still available.

I use a string mop on a wooden pole and then dry the floor with an old towel scooched around under my feet. I can wash the mop head and the towel. Never a manky mop hanging around my closet.

whattodoo · 27/02/2013 08:03

Steam!

readyforno2 · 27/02/2013 08:25

Another vote for steam.
No faffing about filling up buckets and no waiting for the floor to dry. Easy!

pookamoo · 27/02/2013 10:25

We hada string one, but the floor always seemed to be soaking wet after washing/ The sponge one dried really quickly. To be honest, it's the throwaway aspect of mops that I really don't like.

We're planning to put a wood floor in downstairs at some point. Currently the mop is just used for kitchen lino and utility room tiles. Could a steam mop be used on a wooden floor? What happens to the dirt?

H2O steam mop. It can used on all surfaces. Its fab on windows too.

sooperdooper · 27/02/2013 10:36

I got a steam one but I just don't find it that good, it's a vax one so I was expecting wonders but I've gone back to my normal vileda mop and bucket instead, it's one like a string mop and you can buy new heads for i

Am I doing something wrong with the steam one I wonder? t

GinAndSlimlinePlease · 28/02/2013 14:16

I bought myself an e cloth mop yesterday. I'm not sure I like the idea that it uses no chemicals, I don't believe the floor can really be clean without bleach Grin

but it did work wonders on the bathroom and kitchen floors. And no hassle waiting for the floor to dry.

I'd still rather have a steam mopEnvy

amazonianwoman · 28/02/2013 20:15

I bought the Lakeland steam mop today but I'm not that impressed. It doesn't cope that well with dried on dirt and left my tiles looking streaky.

I think I'll return it and stick with my trusty E cloth mop which does a better job Smile

MrsHoarder · 28/02/2013 20:19

A squeezey sponge head one. The head had been replaced a couple if times and it takes up hardly any room.

CMOTDibbler · 28/02/2013 20:23

A strip mop for the once a week proper clean, and a dolphin mop (has e cloth head and a 'dolphin' that holds cleaning mixture you can squirt out) for swooshes round

catinboots · 28/02/2013 20:24

JML Whizz Mop

Knowsabitabouteducation · 28/02/2013 21:07

We have a string mop for the cleaner, but we use a Flash powermop for inbetween times.

imip · 28/02/2013 21:36

gin, I have the ecloth mop also and I am very passionate about it. For a long while I used it (months) and I found the floor got slippery even when dry. I guess the water doesn't really cut it. However, I now use this . It's the bees kness, smells lovely, no water involved, v quick to clean. I'm a bit of a slattern and I don't mop my floor nearly as much as it needs with 4dds aged from 1-6. So, I'd say its economical also. Apparently other brands such as flash etc make a squirt and mop type of product. But with an ecloth mop, I guess the method product would suit you more?

SkivingAgain · 28/02/2013 21:40

I bought one from Tesco - it's cloth and has a nifty built in twisty thing for wringing it out.

GinAndSlimlinePlease · 28/02/2013 22:26

imip would I spray the method cleaner then use the emop then?

imip · 28/02/2013 22:40

Yes, squirt. Kinda like a bottle of water with those popper lids. It's not slippery afterwards. Just squirt and mop.... Smells lush. Dd2 loves squirting for me. We probably need to get out more Smile.
