Where do you get your children's dinner plates from?

Sorry, non riveting topic, but I'm getting stuck.

I've been using the Ikea Kalas plates and bowls, but the plates are the size of adult side plates, and are becoming too small for my older children. I have seen cheapish sets in supermarkets. Whilst I don't mind the occasional breakage, but my smallest is just two, is likely to want to use what the older two do, and is likely to accidentally drop one at least once a week, so I'd rather not use china.
I can't be bothered to fight with him about not using them each meal time, there are plenty of other battles I can pick.

All I can find is melamine, themed, and not cheap. I don't mind the themed.

I have found this 36 piece Ikea set, but I can't find any dimensions, so it might be the same size as what I have.

Growing up my Mum had a (hideous) blue floral set of non breakable plates forus, adult size. Did that sort of thing die out with the nineties?

What do you use? TIA.

We have those Ikea plates. They're not much bigger than an adult side plate but are fine for my 2 year old. Older DD has a melamine plate that was part of a picnic set - places like Tesco usually sell them as separates I think.

We have one set of crockery- our Denby wedding present . They get used for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In 15 years we've had 3 breakages and I was responsible for all of them!

You could wait a month or two for all the outdoor / picnic sets to come out - they often have full size non breakable plates. I know a few people who have done that.

Yes I'd say wait for the summer picnic stock to come in. I find it really hard at the moment because DS is 4 and is still hungry if I fill up a side plate for him, but a meal his size on an adult plate looks tiny.

Our boys just use the regular crockery Grin

I think I got some sets of plastic bowls and plates from Asda. The plates are teaplate sized. They're of the picnic variety but they're perfectly good for kids meals.

I do have a few of these from Tyrrell Katz. They quite often have a sale on and do beakers, bowls and cutlery to match.

DS, aged 3, gets meals served up on these, that are a great size and have lasted Yonks! Dishwasher safe etc.

EchoBitch · 21/02/2013 23:54

They always used the same crockery as we did.

Home Bargains. They have the picnic sets in & you can also pick up themed sets plastic/porcelain for £2.50 , I have loads of the Zak stuff from there & it lasts forever
