Need a new Vacuum, what would you recommend

I currently have a Dyson DC08 cylinder but it has stopped picking up.

Downstairs the kitchen and dining room are tiled, living room has a wooden floor however we do have rugs. Upstairs is carpeted. We have two very hairy and muddy Springers and at present my house resembles something out of a western with the amount of tumbleweed dog hair Shock.

If anyone has pets, what vacuum do you have. I am grateful for any recommendations.

Thanks Flowers

Cleaner with a Miele Cat & Dog says my DC08 is better.
I don't think anything is brilliant.

Can you ring dyson they have a really good helpline and can normally sort things out over the phone.
Saved me numerous times .

BigGiantCowWithAKnockKnockTail · 21/02/2013 20:57

I love my Henry. Both my sister and a good friend have bought Henrys thanks to me and they are very grateful for the recommendation Grin

Miele Cat & Dog.

I have had loads of Dysons and they are not a patch on my Miele.

Ooopsadaisy · 21/02/2013 21:01

Have borrowed the Miele from work to see how good it is compared to my useless, dust-spreading piece of bagless crap.

It nearly sucked up the carpet, the cat, the sofa and the DCs.

Brilliant bit of kit so I'm saving my pennies.

Apparently the bags are really pricey but you can snip the end, empty and clip closed with one of those plastic clip-it thingies.

Miele s2111, fantastic! In fact most Miele ones are great, they feature in nearly all of the Which? Best Buys!

Pantah630 · 21/02/2013 21:15

Our old dyson stopped picking up, I've replaced with a DC41 Animal, it's great and has the ball thingy so is easy to manoeuvre.

holidaysdistantmemory · 21/02/2013 21:22

Miele cat and dog here, brilliant. Get from john Lewis, they replaced immediately when mine had a fault, worth the extra cost. Bags not too expensive on amazon and last for a good time

Thanks everyone for your recommendations.

Will have a look at the Miele Cat and Dog and the Dyson Animal.

Another vote for the Dyson DC41.

PigletJohn · 23/02/2013 17:35

you don't need to cut and clip Miele bags.

the dirt packs down tight inside, and they need emptying far less often than a bagless (and are cleaner to handle when you do it)

you can buy them online cheaper than in the high street

the new white ones are better than the old brown paper bags

SEBO X4 Pet. I find it Blush to admit how much I actually love my SEBO. All those years previously with a Dyson may have contributed to this.

bumbez · 23/02/2013 17:45

Just a thought but have you checked the filter of the Dyson ?

ppeatfruit · 25/02/2013 10:58

bumbez my bleedin' upright Dyson's hose is fine but it refuses to pick up with its foot bit IYKWIM! we had it checked and cleaned by a 'man' but has so quickly bunged up, do you think it could be the filter too which is where?

VivaLeBeaver · 25/02/2013 11:01

I've got a Sebo cylinder vacuum...maybe a D2????

I liked it better than the similar Miele model, it was lighter, teh bags were bigger so less emptying and it had a longer flex so I can do the whole house from one plug point.

PuddinAforeDinner · 25/02/2013 11:46

Thank you all for your recommendations.

bumbez, yes have washed the filter so it's not that. I have also had a man that I know (previously worked for Dyson Wink) look at it and he recommended a new one.

Ppeat, from what I can remember the filter is a bit of foam that comes out and just needs to be washed. I only mentioned it because I had a dyson once that was sluggish for a good year while before I twigged it was the filter. Eventually it gave up the ghost though and I got a Henry!

ppeatfruit · 26/02/2013 09:27

Thanks bumbez would you recommend a Henry as opposed to a Dyson then?

MrsMiniversCharlady · 26/02/2013 09:33

We've got this Miele It's significantly cheaper than the cat and dog version, presumably because it's got a less powerful motor, but I think it's still incredibly good. I had a Henry before and it's in a completely different league - far more effective, lighter, easier to move around, less messy to change the bags. Best hoover I've ever had.

SparkleSoiree · 26/02/2013 09:40

Just bought a Dyson animal at the weekend and its fab!

CashmereHoodlum · 26/02/2013 10:51

I have a 2000 watt Miele, so a bit more compact than the standard cat and dog, but I have the turbobrush. The key is the turbobrush. I also have the mini turbobrush for the stairs. I find the Miele very powerful and far better than any vacuum I have had before, including the Dyson. The only thing I don't like is that the cable could be a bit longer, although I think the full size Mieles have longer cables.

bumbez · 26/02/2013 10:53

The Henry has been okay, but since we've moved house it struggles with one of the bedroom carpets for some reason - it has a shorter pile iyswim. I've had it years though so has been good value, and buying bags for it doesn't bother me they last ages. Might try the Miele next as a previous poster recommends. Hth :)

ppeatfruit · 26/02/2013 11:17

Thanks everyone, I think we'll get the Miele 2000 turbo brush one of our problems is the dust in this medieval stone house with a wood burner so you can imagine!
