Good websites for household organisation?

Does anyone have any good tips for housey websites that just kind of tell you where to put things?! I really need guidance as it just doesn't come naturally to me - I understand the idea of "a place for everything and everything in its place", but I need help finding those places ... and then remembering where they bloody well are! Grin

I have quite a big kitchen with loads of cupboards but I just can't seem to find a "system" - when I think I've allocated one cupboard for tins, or whatever, I'll suddenly find myself with too many tins and have to chuck the extra elsewhere ... and even when I do think I've come up with a good idea it often doesn't work - eg I thought a big wicker basket by the front door for hats, scarves and gloves would be ideal, but in reality I waste time every morning rummaging through for the right ones for each DC, and usually end up carrying it through to the living room and tipping it all out on the carpet! Groan.

Another area I really need hand-holding with is where to put clothes that are not dirty yet (my own ones, I just pile over the lid of the washing basket, which gets totally overloaded and means I can't open the sodding basket) ...The DCs just end up layered over their bed rails Sad ...

A website divided by room telling me firmly what to put where would be a godsend! In a brusque voice would be even better! Grin

Hi,

Well, for organisation tips I like The Organised Housewife as she has great decluttering, tidying and meal planning ideas.

For actual things to help you get organised, I like K TWO - sign up to their newsletters for discount codes!

Gate crashing the post to thank CarolynR for The Organised Housewife link..
It's just what I have been looking for since flylady stopped emailing daily digests to me!

Another website (well it's a blog really) that I love and find inspiring is 'iheartorganizing' by an American girl. She also links to other blogs on organising.

Ok I love Fly Lady - esp her Youtube clips. if you sign up for her emails you get inspiration and instructions on what to do each day.

However another great website is Simplemom.net - you can download her cleaning routine from her website and her book Organized Simplicity has great lists for organising cupboards etc. The book was recommended by someone on here and its really good. Whilst you're doing your cleaning etc you can listen to her podcasts which are really interesting discussions.

Kitchen: think about having things in the right places. Pans near the oven, cups and teabags/coffee near the kettle, cleaning stuff under the sink, etc. Also think about what you actually need - maybe you have too many tins and some could go to charity/be binned? Once you have decided hat to put where, think about how to keep each cupboard organised - you might need to invest in some stacking racks for plates or a rack for saucepan lids, for example.

Hats, scarves and gloves - you need to sort these in a more "granular" way. Maybe a box/shelf for each person? Storage that has small compartments? Or sew the DCs' gloves onto ribbon and thread them through coat sleeves?

Clothes that are not dirty yet - do you mean things you're going to wear again before they go in the wash? Just hang them up or put them away at the end of the day. They don't need a special place, do they? Confused

Try the Austerity Housekeeping blog. She's a mumsnetter.
