Storage Containers - Along the lines of Tupperware

ausgal · 17/02/2013 11:13

Exciting, I know - but can anyone recommend some good quality storage systems/containers for use in the kitchen.
Something along the lines of Tupperware with containers for the cupboards, fridge, freezer and everyday use - but at a fraction of the cost?
Thanks

Ikea

Indith · 17/02/2013 11:21

www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/60149673/ 17 tubs for £3.

Indith · 17/02/2013 11:23

also various more expensive ones and jars and what not. But the £3 are pretty good and last a fair while so you might as well buy a few sets of those and keep some in a cupboard to replace ones that break!

\link{https://aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_29204.htm\aldi have these this week}

The Ikea ones are clearly a better deal though! Especially with such a variety of sizes

I like sistema with the clickidy blue fasteners. Then you do t have to wrench the lids off things.

ausgal · 17/02/2013 11:29

Indith-they look perfect, don't know why I didn't think of ikea, ta.
Jess-thanks for the suggestion, I will also take a look at these, I was thinking of something more lightweight, that I could take snacks out in, but these would be good for 'inside'.

Will head to ikea on Tuesday, armed with another £47, as I always walk out of that place having spent at least £50 ??

don't the clicky fasteners break after a while, Savoy? I've been avoiding buying those because I don't trust them to last (esp with the cack-handed men in my house...)

Indith · 17/02/2013 11:34

Every clippy type box I have has at least one of teh clicky flaps missing.

The cheapy ikea ones go down to teeny tiny little ones that just fit a biscuit and a few grapes and slip into the pocket of your jeans. Great for snacks.

SavoyCabbage · 17/02/2013 11:43

I've had my clickidy ones for ages. They have always been really good.

I've got all my flours etc in them and cereals. (Live abroad so out of necessity rather than doo-lally over clickidy tupperware) and I e got small ones for packed lunches and medium for batch cooking frozen stuff. They have been in the fridge and microwave many times.

Oh no, I ^am^ doo-lally.

Ponders · 18/02/2013 21:13

went to Ikea today & didn't buy the massive £3 set - DD1 said she's had them in the past, the lids aren't very secure & she thinks they're not good enough (though I suppose it depends what you intend to do with them Grin)

so I got 2 sets of \link{http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90166072/\Jamka 0.5 litre,} also \link{http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90176976/\1 set of 2 tall ones with pouring lids}

didn't get the smaller round ones

PigletJohn · 19/02/2013 00:21

I buy mine from the Chinese takeaway. They're rather expensive, but they do come with free food inside.

erowid · 19/02/2013 00:49

Same here PigletJohn its not always Chinese though. Ice cream, margarine and sometimes lots of yoghurt too!

breadyegg · 19/02/2013 18:12

You can buy those Chinese takeaway containers in Wilkinson. 6 for a £1 I think. They are brilliant. I have loads...

calendula · 19/02/2013 19:39

IMHO the Ikea ones are useless. After several "leaking IKEA boxes in school bag" disasters, we now only use lock & lock from Lakeland. They are indestructable.

The stackable ones are best.

JoJoH1 · 19/02/2013 20:03

i like lock and lock quite often on offer in Morrisons and also QVC have some of their own brand that are good too.

AnnoyingOrange · 19/02/2013 20:35

I have the sistema ones too. I use a couple in ds1's packed lunch most days and they have lasted several years
