Ok - choosing oven but no time or mental capacity to research further. So, this is a question for NEFF aficionados:

Do I go for the appealing slideaway door version with telescopic shelves BUT with catalytic cleaning system only .

OR

Do I forego the bells & whistles; open my own goddamned oven door; and go for a pyrolytic model?

You help would be saving a whole family from my stress later today!! XXX

the bigger one!

Because whatever cleaning system it has will not get used, because it'll be too complicated, you won't be arsed, and it will never be as good as the guy that comes and does it for you and replaces the light bulb at the same time.

Good point, Arithmeticulous. Do you speak from experience? The pyrolytic oven owners on this site seem an evangelical lot.

I am already convinced by them but i suppose my question is - is catalytic cleaning worth bothering with? Is a slideaway door and telescopic shelves worth giving up pyrolytic cleaning for. Salesmen cannot answer this - only real life oven users can. Wink

I have a Neff pyrolytic oven, although it is now around 5 years old.

Yes, they are expensive but I wouldn't now have an oven that is not pyrolytic.

When we got ours I was a bit disappointed that it didn't clean the shelves and the side brackets, but have since learned on Mumsnet that these can be cleaned REALLY easily on bio washing powder and a Brillo pad.

You can pyrolise (don't even know if that is a word!) on three levels- I always use the 'strongest' one. It takes about 2 hours and then a while for the doors to unlock when the oven is cool enough, but after that it's only a wipedown with a damp cloth and as good as new.

I have noticed, however, that the glass door doesn't seem to be cleaned to the same standard- I guess because it's not made of the same material as the oven sides. Barkeeper's Friend sorts that out though.

I had an ordinary oven before and it was a disgrace! With my Neff I feel my MIL could look inside and not have a bad word to say about my housekeeping standards!

Love my Neff Pyrolytic oven! Grin
