flat miserable carpet

so, my bedroom carpet is 3 years old and looks awful. it was a slightly shaggy type and.a fairly dark beige. now it's flat and more of a grey beige.

any tips? I've tried different Hoover attachments and have hand washed it, also taken a dust pan and brush to it.

should I get it professionally cleaned?

Yes, you should get it professionally cleaned. Someone with a truck-mount system should be able to do a good job, as the machine is powerful enough to suck everything out and leave it nearly dry. It should improve the nap, as well.

thank you.
would a truck mounted cleaner be able to reach up 3 floors? we have a really tall house.

how much does this kind of thing cost? is it a fortune? I haven't got a fortune!!

do you know what it's made of?

is it rubber-backed?

KatyTheCleaningLady · 26/01/2013 16:48

Three floors? Well, very likely not. Sorry.

However, there are some portable machines that are pretty powerful. If you'd like, I could ask some carpet-cleaning mates of mine what they think you should look for in a cleaner. Tell me what you know about the carpet and I'll go ask and get back to you.

PigletJohn - I've checked and it is hessian backed. It will have been cheap so some sort of non-wool stuff I expect.

Katy - it would be ace if you'd ask for me, thank you. I'd really like my nap improving [bgrin]

Thank you for the replies.

OK! I'll tell them that you've got a slightly shag rug with a hessian back and you want to get the nap to be fluffy and pretty, again. I'll let you know what they recommend for you to do.

TackyChristmastreedelivery · 26/01/2013 20:43

Thank you!

I don't know why my burns grin didn't work. Harumph.

I sent this to you in a pm, but thought it might be useful for anyone reading:

One of the big gurus in carpet cleaning (he conducts training workshops and has many years experience) told me this:

"This sounds likely to be a polypropylene carpet. Cleaning is no problem but PP is known as 'the fibre without a memory' for good reason. Especially with longer piles it can rapidly become flattened, especially in traffic lanes around a bed. Though this can temporarily be improved, it will rapidly flatten again.

To avoid disappointment she should be aware of this, otherwise no matter how well it is cleaned, the cleaner minght be thought to have performed bellow standard."
